PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrei Kalashnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee has chosen I Am Perfection by Cage 9 as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ricky Lee!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Valeri Chadov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kalashnikov steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Lee.

Kalashnikov shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Lee is wriggling around trying to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lee is squirming around, avoiding Kalashnikov's attempts to control the action.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Kalashnikov is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lee is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kalashnikov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lee keeps working.

Lee is looking to reverse the position.
Lee is trying to control Kalashnikov's posture but Kalashnikov avoids it.
Kalashnikov wants to control but Lee is keeping him busy.

Kalashnikov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Lee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kalashnikov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Lee leaves Kalashnikov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Lee rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kalashnikov moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Lee will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Lee dives in and scores a takedown into Kalashnikov's guard.
Lee postures up in Kalashnikov's guard and throws a big left but Kalashnikov blocks it.

Kalashnikov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kalashnikov keeping moving, preventing Lee from controlling successfully.

Lee got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kalashnikov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lee has managed to get both his arms back between Kalashnikov's legs - danger averted.
Lee chips away with some ground and pound.

Lee avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Lee looking to sit in guard and control but Kalashnikov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Lee is pulling down on Kalashnikov's head. It's preventing any offense from Kalashnikov, at least for the moment.

Kalashnikov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kalashnikov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Lee looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kalashnikov is one step ahead there.

Kalashnikov is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Lee is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Lee has escaped and now he's on top!

Kalashnikov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lee doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lee manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
