PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bret Sane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Ficco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Sane might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Domination. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sane fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ficco throws a body kick that misses.

Ficco has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ficco changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Sane fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Sane fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sane tries to clinch but Ficco moves out of range.
Sane tries to close the distance and clinch but Ficco swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Sane shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Ficco closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sane's guard.
Ficco must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Ficco feints and as Sane raises his hands in defense, Ficco changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ficco looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Sane wants to sweep here but Ficco controlling him for the moment.

Sane has his foot on Ficco's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ficco works his way back into a safe position though.
Sane is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ficco got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sane has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ficco has managed to get both his arms back between Sane's legs - danger averted.

A close round but Jack Ficco will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Ficco tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sane paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Ficco clinches.
Sane jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ficco walks away with a smile on his face. Sane gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Nice takedown defense from Ficco. No joy for Sane on that attempt.
Sane's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Sane duly obliges.
Ficco shoots in but no luck this time.
Sane rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ficco moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ficco throws a head kick that misses.
Sane is looking to clinch.
Sane shoots in for a takedown but Ficco shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bret Sane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ficco throws a one two combo.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The fight stays on the outside here - Ficco looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Ficco stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Sane shoots in for a double leg but Ficco sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ficco closes the distance and clinches.
Sane is working for takedown but Ficco is calmly controlling the position for now.

Ficco goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sane prevents it.
Ficco tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Sane smiles and moves away.

Sane dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Ficco stuffs the takedown.
Sane tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ficco paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Sane. Ficco does a little dance to reset his feet.

Ficco closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ficco lands in his opponent's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sane has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ficco is proving hard to escape from.
Sane works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Sane works his way into full mount!
Ficco is squirming around, avoiding Sane's attempts to control the action.
Sane lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Ficco hang on?

Sane looking to control but Ficco is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Sane has hold of Ficco's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Ficco manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Sane lands a big shot there that rocks Ficco but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ficco can do anything to dispel that myth.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Sane is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Ficco has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Ficco!
Sane controls Ficco momentarily but Ficco frees himself.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ficco is defended easily by Sane.

Ficco takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ficco swats away the attempt to clinch by Sane.
Sane closes the distance and clinches up with Ficco, looking for a takedown. Sane pushes Ficco against the cage but Ficco circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Sane moves out of range of the body kick.
Sane tries for a takedown but Ficco sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Sane will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Ficco shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sane's guard.

Sane is looking to sinch up a triangle. Ficco throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Sane's body to avoid the submission. Sane has instead reached around Ficco's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Sane arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
