PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sean Dignam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aloe Vera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vera has chosen Remember my NAME! as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
11 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Dignam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aloe Vera!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dignam changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Vera tries to avoid it but Dignam manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Vera to the ground. Vera escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dignam tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Vera manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Dignam takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Dignam is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Vera.
The fight stays on the outside here - Dignam looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Dignam closes the distance and clinches.
Vera is working for takedown but Dignam is calmly controlling the position for now.
Vera wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Vera jumps guard but Dignam stands there with Vera around his waist. Vera gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Sean Dignam has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aloe Vera.
Dignam tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Dignam ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Dignam no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Dignam manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Vera manages to get himself to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dignam working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Vera tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Vera is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Dignam jumps into side control!
Dignam gets to mount! Vera was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Dignam is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Vera is trying desperately to improve position.
Dignam has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Dignam lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Vera is wriggling around trying to escape.
Dignam wants to control the pace but Vera is squirming around nicely.
Vera sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Dignam seems to be looking for submissions.

Vera wants to control but Dignam is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Vera tries to roll over but Dignam keeps him under control.
Vera is refusing to be controlled, as Dignam sits in half guard.
Vera moves into full guard.

Dignam passes Vera's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Vera wants to improve his position but Dignam is controlling well.
Dignam is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Vera doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Dignam.
Dignam is trying to control the action in half guard but Vera is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Vera is in trouble now - Dignam has advanced to mount!
Dignam is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vera is in all sorts of trouble here.
Vera is in a horrible position here. Dignam smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Dignam is trying to take his opponent's back.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Vera is bucking up trying to escape but Dignam cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
And thats the end of the round the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Dignam moves into the clinch.
Vera has had enough of the clinch but Dignam keeps him there for the moment.
Dignam doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Vera works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Vera stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dignam swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Dignam is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Vera swings for the body but Dignam moves out of range.

Vera comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Dignam is looking to clinch.
Vera tries to sprawl but Dignam drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Vera moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Dignam postures up.
Vera is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dignam defends well.
Dignam trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Vera is looking to sinch up a triangle. Dignam throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Vera's body to avoid the submission. Vera has instead reached around Dignam's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Vera arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
