PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Brookins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter One (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mark Brookins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Peter One!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Radbod Blank and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brookins shoots in looking for a takedown. One tries to sprawl out of it but Brookins keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. One manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
One tries for a takedown but Brookins sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
One is looking to clinch but Brookins is avoiding it.
One misses with a series of wild punches.
One tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Brookins goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
One lands a front kick.
Brookins tries to clinch but One moves out of range.
One shoots in and drives through. Brookins sprawls well.
One fails with the takedown.
Mark Brookins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter One.
One with a poor takedown
and Brookins counters with a left to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brookins keeps the fight on the outside.
One doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Brookins to counter with a crisp jab.
Brookins lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
One shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Brookins pinned against the cage. Brookins gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
One looks gassed!
One shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A head kick misses from One.

Brookins shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. One manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
One bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Brookins's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
One won't allow Brookins to get back to his feet.

Brookins has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but One can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
One wants to control from the top but Brookins keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
One controls from within his opponent's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Peter One.
No luck for One with that takedown attempt.
Brookins wants to clinch.
One takes one on the chin but seems OK.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
One pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Nice sprawl there from One as Brookins shoots in.
Brookins is trying hard to land a takedown here. One sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

One has closed the distance and engaged Brookins in a clinch.
One is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Brookins is keeping busy.

One breaks the clinch.
One with a lazy takedown attempt

and Brookins counters with a takedown into side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
One throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
One is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Brookins's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Peter One will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


One wants to clinch up but Brookins keeps it at a distance.
One shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Brookins as he avoids it easily.
Brookins throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around One's waist but One gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brookins off to one side.
Brookins tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. One manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Brookins shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Brookins was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Brookins sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
One doing his best to control the position. Can he escape?
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
One wants to control but Brookins is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
One manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Brookins sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. One defending well though.

One looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
One manages to get to full guard.
One keeping moving, preventing Brookins from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
One manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Brookins really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
One controlling the position easily from mount.

One has hold of Brookins's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Brookins manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Brookins keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
One controlling the position easily from mount.
Brookins avoids a series of strikes thrown by One.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Brookins is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, One has taken his back.
Brookins is keeping busy.
One just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Brookins tries to break free.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brookins is working hard here to advance position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter One showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


One is looking to clinch but Brookins is avoiding it.
Nice sprawl there from Brookins as One shoots in.
Brookins moves in looking to clinch but One pushes him off.
One on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
One with a lazy takedown attempt

so Brookins counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
One not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Brookins has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Brookins engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

One wriggles free and stands up.
Mark Brookins is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
One dives in and grabs Brookins's left leg, looking for a takedown. Brookins pushes down on One's head and hops out.
Mark Brookins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter One.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

One shoots in and drives through. Brookins sprawls well.
One with a lazy takedown attempt

and Brookins counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in One's guard now.
Brookins trying to control but One is working from the bottom.

One escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Brookins gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
One tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Brookins knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for One on the ground.

Brookins won't allow One to sweep him here.
One controls Brookins momentarily but Brookins frees himself.
Brookins is pushing down on One's leg trying to pass to half guard. One is fighting to maintain full guard but Brookins has managed to sneak the leg through.
Brookins missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
One has hold of Brookins's hands but Brookins slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Brookins drops an elbow to the side of One's head.
One is staying active underneath Brookins, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mark Brookins overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brookins blocks the strikes from One.
One is holding on to half guard well.
One has hold of Brookins's hands but Brookins slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Brookins is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so One is just riding it out for now. Brookins eventually gives up the hold.
One is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Brookins's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Brookins's back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Even with his hooks in, One manages to miss with strikes from the back.
One biding his time, controlling Brookins.
Brookins tries to escape the position.
Brookins is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Mark Brookins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Peter One is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A bit of a pause in the action here. One controlling the positon.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mark Brookins showed his dominance in that final round.
I think One has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
