The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

van der Burgt steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Richardson.

van der Burgt is pushing down on Richardson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Richardson is fighting to maintain full guard but van der Burgt has managed to sneak the leg through.
van der Burgt seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

van der Burgt wants to work for an arm triangle but Richardson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

van der Burgt is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Richardson defends it well.
van der Burgt seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Richardson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
