PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yoshi Doi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fat Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Sano and Sosuke Kotani.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Doi moves away.

Doi clinches up against the cage.
Boy has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Doi successfully pulls guard.

Doi has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Boy off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Boy shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Doi defends it nicely.
Doi stuffs the takedown.

Doi closes the distance and clinches.
Doi stalling against the cage.
Boy drops down looking for an ankle pick but Doi pulls his leg out and moves away.
Yoshi Doi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fat Boy.

Doi fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Boy to the ground. Doi is now in Boy's guard.

Boy is trying to control but can't.
Doi stalling.

Doi is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Boy has managed to free his arm - good work.
Boy is trying to maintain the position but Doi is very close to passing his half guard.
Well, if Doi is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Boy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Doi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Doi seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Doi thows a huge punch but Boy dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Doi stalling.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Yoshi Doi.

Boy tries to sprawl but Doi drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Doi is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Doi is thwarting Boy's attempts to control the position.
Doi is pressing down on Boy's thigh, looking to free his foot. Boy is holding on for now.
Boy wants to get back to full guard but Doi has mounted him!
Boy manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Doi is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Doi perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Boy wants to control but Doi is keeping busy.
Doi is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Boy is looking to improve his position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

We're going to have a standup here because Yoshi Doi wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Doi has taken the fight to the clinch.

Doi has clasped his hands together around Boy's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Boy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Doi swivels and escapes.

Doi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Boy can't do much from the bottom here.
Boy tries to control but Doi manages to take his back.
Doi throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boy is really stuck here.

Doi keeps control of the position easily here as Boy tries to buck him off.
Boy is breathing heavily.
Doi has the hooks in. Boy is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Doi looking to break Boy's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Boy remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Doi will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Doi is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Boy is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Doi is looking for the choke from the back position but Boy is controlling his hands well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Boy is in bad spot here.

Doi is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Boy has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Doi has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Boy taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Doi doesn't care though - he's delighted!
