PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yayutee Da Gama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryan Cannon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Yayutee Da Gama!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Alyssa Summers and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cannon is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Da Gama.


It looks like Ryan Cannon has been cut.
An inside leg kick lands from Cannon.
A head kick misses from Da Gama.
Da Gama shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cannon defends it nicely.

Cannon drops Da Gama with a nice combination! Cannon dives into Da Gama's guard, looking to finish!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cannon stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Cannon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Da Gama shoots in and bounces Cannon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Da Gama is looking to work some ground and pound but Cannon has wrist control.
Cannon is looking to stand back up but Da Gama counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Cannon.

Cannon kicks off Da Gama and gets to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cannon tries to close the distance and clinch up but Da Gama swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Da Gama pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Cannon catches Da Gama napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Da Gama to the canvas!


Da Gama is rocked!
Cannon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Da Gama on the ground.
Cannon is looking to stand up but Da Gama won't let him.
Da Gama is still in real trouble! Can Cannon finish him?

Cannon decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Da Gama seems to have recovered his senses.
Cannon swinging wildly here.

Da Gama closes the distance and clinches.

Cannon breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Oooh a lovely combination from Cannon sends Da Gama down but not out. Cannon dives into side control looking to finish.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cannon tries to stand but Da Gama is controlling his head.
Da Gama has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Cannon is breathing heavily.

Cannon stands up and we're back to a striking position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Da Gama shoots in for a takedown but Cannon shows good takedown defense.

Da Gama scores a takedown into full mount!
Cannon squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Da Gama tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Cannon is in a horrible position here. Da Gama smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Da Gama content just to control the position here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Da Gama cracks Cannon with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cannon takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Cannon trying desperately to get to his feet.
Da Gama sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Da Gama fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Da Gama pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Da Gama with shots to the head and body - Cannon looks very uncomfortable down there.
Da Gama tries to control but Cannon wriggling away.
You get the feeling that Cannon really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Da Gama lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Da Gama lands with some strikes.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Da Gama looking to control but Cannon is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Cannon tries to strike from the bottom but he's left himself exposed and Da Gama has taken his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ryan Cannon will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Ryan Cannon's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


No luck for Da Gama with that takedown attempt.
Cannon misses with a jab, cross combination.
Da Gama swats away the attempt to clinch by Cannon.
Da Gama fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cannon manages to avoid it.
Da Gama circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cannon throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Da Gama.

Da Gama shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cannon manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Da Gama stands and throws Cannon's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Cannon seems a little lost for a moment, as Da Gama dominates the positioning.
Cannon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Da Gama advances nicely into full mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Da Gama can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cannon is looking to escape.
Da Gama seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Cannon is holding on tight.
Cannon is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Da Gama trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Da Gama sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Cannon is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Da Gama trying to control but Cannon is having none of it.
Da Gama unloading with bombs!

Da Gama working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Cannon looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Da Gama! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:02 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Yayutee Da Gama!
