PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kublai Konn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Konn has chosen The Bloodhound Gang - Dirty Touch as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tommy Gunn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kublai Konn!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Konn drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Gunn is looking to regain half guard here but Konn keeps moving and retains side control.
Konn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gunn keeps working.
Gunn is looking for a sweep.
Gunn struggling a bit here.

Konn tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Gunn on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gunn gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Gunn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Konn is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gunn is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Konn pulls his head out easily.

Gunn avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Konn.

Konn seems to be looking for submissions.
Konn prevents Gunn from improving his position.
Konn throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gunn trying to hold on to Konn's head to control him but Konn postures up.

Konn is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Gunn has managed to free his arm - good work.
Gunn is not content to let Konn control the position.
Konn perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Konn missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Gunn wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Konn scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Konn is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Gunn has managed to free his arm - good work.
Konn has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Gunn trying to control from the bottom.
Konn looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gunn with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Gunn is trying to get back to full guard.

Konn seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Konn trying to control the action but Gunn is working from the bottom.
Gunn tries to get to full guard but Konn has control of the leg.

Gunn is defending against the submission attempts here by Konn.
Konn seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gunn does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Konn works his foot free and advances to mount.
Konn tries to control but Gunn wriggling away.
Gunn is looking to improve his position but Konn isn't that keen on the idea.

Konn working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Gunn turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Konn off and cradles Gunn's limp body as Konn celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Kublai Konn!
