PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Fry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jim White acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Nick Fry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Jim White!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Daniel Bishop and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
White avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
White shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Fry eats them both and turns towards White to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
White tries to clinch up but Fry circles away and keeps his distance.
Fry fails with the takedown
and White counters with a body kick.
Fry is breathing heavily.
White cracks Fry with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
This has been an exciting period of action!
White throws a series of punches but Fry moves out of range.
White swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Fry has a takedown stuffed.
White scores with a head kick. Fry tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
White shoots in looking for a takedown. Fry tries to sprawl out of it but White keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fry manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
White connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

White has closed the distance and engaged Fry in a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fry is trying to work for a single leg takedown but White pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Fry. That's going to take a lot out of him.
White slowing the pace effectively.
Fry tries for a takedown but White manages to get underhooks.

White breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fry doesn't succeed with the takedown
and White counters with a slapping leg kick.

White drives through with a takedown into Fry's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
White works over Fry with some ground and pound from guard.
White scoring with punches to the head and body.
White pushing down on Fry's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. White connects with a nice short shot to Fry's temple.
This has been an exciting period of action!
White working Fry over with strikes.
White tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
White seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
White wants to stand up but Fry is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

White stands up out of the half guard.
White throws a series of strikes that have Fry backpedaling.
White tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Nick Fry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

White clinches up with Fry and pushes him back against the cage.
White lands a body punch.

White pulls Fry into guard.
White pulls Fry in close to prevent any damage.
White looking for a sweep. Not yet White, not yet.
White is pulling down on Fry's head. It's preventing any offense from Fry, at least for the moment.

White had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fry defends it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
White seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Fry pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. White is keeping the position for now.
Fry missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Fry won't allow White to sweep him here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
White keeping moving, preventing Fry from controlling successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
White stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and White wants it to stay on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim White dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


White throws a nice head kick!
White misses with a wild combination.
Fry is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
White lands with a good body shot.

White rushes Fry and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
White will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Fry up against the cage.

White breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Fry gets tackled into the cage by White. White maintains the clinch.
Fry blocks an elbow strike from White.
Fry is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Fry can't get the takedown.
White has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Fry avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
White is trying to break the clinch but Fry has him pressed against the cage.
White fails to pull the fight into his guard.
White digs a right hand into Fry's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Fry's gas tank.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

White jumps guard.
Fry won't allow White to sweep him here.
White pulls Fry in close to prevent any damage.

Fry gets to his feet - White follows without any prompting.
Fry on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

White closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
White avoiding damage.
White is trying to break the clinch but Fry is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

White has clasped his hands together around Fry's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
White wants to control but Fry is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

White has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

White moves into the clinch successfully.
Fry prevents White from breaking the clinch.

White gets control of Fry's arms and successfully pulls guard. White will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now White is on top in guard.
Fry keeping moving, preventing White from controlling successfully.
White has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Fry is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
White trying to control the position from guard on top but Fry is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim White showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Fry with a poor takedown
and White counters with an inside leg kick.
White thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Fry if he has to take too many more of those.
White lands with a nice combination. Fry backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Nick Fry has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fry misses with a takedown

and White counters with a head kick that drops Fry to the mat! Fry scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!


Fry is rocked!
White throws a quick head kick that knocks Fry silly! This fight is all over! What a finish! White is up on the cage, taking in the applause from the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:28 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Jim White!
