The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left and a right from Carwin both land. Nice combination.
Barrett swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Carwin cracks Barrett with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Carwin avoids the body shot from Barrett.
Barrett will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Carwin tries to clinch but Barrett moves away
and Barrett counters with a two punch combo.
A solid leg kick lands there for Carwin.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Carwin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Carwin advances position into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carwin working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Barrett wants to get back to his feet but Carwin drags him back down.
Barrett is not content to let Carwin control the position.
Barrett pushes Carwin away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Carwin gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Carwin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barrett keeps working.
Carwin looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Barrett is avoiding damage well.
