PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hines Parker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Freddy Cordova (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Hines Parker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Freddy Cordova!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Aleksandr Martynov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parker avoids the head kick by Cordova.
Parker ducks under a wild hook from Cordova.
Cordova lands a jab.
The fighters circling - Cordova throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
An inside leg kick lands from Cordova.
Cordova bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Parker moves into range and connects with a jab.
Cordova throws a half hearted mid kick.
Cordova is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Parker.

Cordova tries to keep at a distance but Parker has taken the fight into the clinch.
Cordova working hard to break the clinch.
Cordova tries to break free but Parker pushes him back against the ropes.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Parker escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Parker avoids the head kick by Cordova.

Parker forces Cordova back against the ropes and clinches.
Parker blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Cordova working hard to break the clinch.
Cordova swings away with an uppercut that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cordova tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Parker breaks the clinch.

Parker drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Parker decides to stand up, so the ref orders Cordova to his feet.
Cordova throws an off balance right hand

and Parker counters by moving into the clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Parker takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Cordova wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Cordova wants to get back to striking at distance but Parker won't allow it.
Cordova tries to break the clinch but Parker is controlling the position.
Cordova doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Parker breaks from the clinch.
Cordova paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Cordova takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Parker keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Cordova.
Parker lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cordova circles away quickly and effectively.

Cordova tries to land a front kick but Parker steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Cordova throws a hook but Parker blocks it.
Parker ducks under a wild hook from Cordova.
Cordova finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Cordova avoids the head kick by Parker.
Parker misses with a body kick.
Cordova misses with a low kick.
Parker ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Parker throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cordova tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Parker is in Cordova's guard.

Parker gets to his feet. Cordova looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Cordova throws a head kick that misses

and Parker counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Parker.
Cordova tries to circle away but Parker has him pinned against the ropes.
Cordova wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Parker has him pressed against the ropes.
Cordova wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Parker avoiding damage.
Parker lands a left hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Parker's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Cordova walks into a jab.
Parker uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cordova.
Cordova misses with a left hand

and Parker counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Parker keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Cordova's efforts to push away.
Parker lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Cordova swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Cordova wants to break the clinch but can't.
Cordova fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Parker breaks from the clinch.

Parker gets a clinch.
Cordova tries to break free but Parker pushes him back against the ropes.
Cordova looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Parker is pushing Cordova up against the ropes, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Parker pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cordova swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Parker clinches up with Cordova and pushes him back against the ropes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Parker prevents Cordova from breaking the clinch.
Cordova tries to break the clinch but Parker is controlling the position.
Cordova is looking to break free of the clinch but Parker has double underhooks.

Parker breaks the clinch.
Cordova misses with a body kick.

Parker moves into the clinch.

Parker pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Parker clinches.
Cordova misses with a punch on the inside.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Parker breaks from the clinch.
Cordova throws a lazy uppercut
and Parker counters with a one-two to the body.
Cordova misses with a hook. Parker ducked under it nicely.
Parker ducks under a wild hook from Cordova.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hines Parker dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Cordova throws a wild body kick that Parker sees coming a mile off.

Parker bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Cordova is trying to get back to his feet.
The strikes coming from Parker are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Cordova is pushing Parker's head away, looking to escape. Parker manages to hold on to the position though.
Parker has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Parker thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Parker decides to stand back up. Parker steps back and let's Cordova get back to his feet.
Parker doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Parker shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cordova's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Parker throwing strikes but missing.
Cordova is looking to stand up but Parker isn't so interested in that idea.
Parker wants to control from the top but Cordova keeps moving.
Cordova is breathing heavily.

Cordova is working an open guard so Parker takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Cordova moves out of range of the body kick from Parker.
Parker fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cordova uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Cordova is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Parker.
Parker misses with the combination.
Cordova throws a lazy uppercut

and Parker counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Parker seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Parker lands a nice short elbow.


Cordova is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Parker perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Parker has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Parker seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Parker winds up and cracks Cordova with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Cordova is still in real trouble! Can Parker finish him?
Parker is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Cordova is hurt! He's hurt bad - Parker fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Cordova from any more punishment! Congratulations to Parker! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hines Parker!
