PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Woohun Do (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shunsuke Nakamura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Woohun Do!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shunsuke Nakamura!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yuuki Gou and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Nakamura. Do does a little dance to reset his feet.
Do misses with a kick to the body.
A decent looking cross lands there for Do.
Nakamura dives in and grabs Do's left leg, looking for a takedown. Do pushes down on Nakamura's head and hops out.
Do checks a leg kick nicely.
Do uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nakamura.
Nakamura takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Do throws a front kick aimed at Nakamura's knee but Nakamura avoids it well.
Nakamura rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Do moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Do throws a shot from downtown. Nakamura moves away and avoids it.
Do swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A low kick from Do is predictable there
letting Nakamura counter with a right hand.
Woohun Do seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nakamura slaps away a takedown attempt from Do, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Nakamura misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Do.
Do shoots in for a takedown but Nakamura shows good takedown defense.
Nakamura lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

so Nakamura counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Do pulls Nakamura in close to prevent any damage.
Do can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nakamura controls the pace.

Nakamura must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Nakamura wants to control from the top but Do keeps moving.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Shunsuke Nakamura was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Do jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Nakamura tries to close the distance and clinch up but Do swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Do takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Do throws a left and a right that both miss
and Nakamura counters with a nice body shot.
Do misses with a two punch combination.
Nakamura avoids the body shot from Do.
Do is trying hard to land a takedown here. Nakamura sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Woohun Do. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Do keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Nakamura.

Do throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Nakamura moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Do swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Do fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Nakamura checks it well.
Nakamura ducks under a wild hook from Do.
Nakamura misses with a few strikes there.
Do ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nakamura moves away.
Do throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Nakamura counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Nakamura lands with a hook. Do tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Nakamura slips under a jab.

Nakamura closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Do goes for a takedown in the clinch but Nakamura prevents it.

Nakamura scores with an uppercut up the middle.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Do.
Nakamura misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Do.

Do breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Do closes the distance and clinches up with Nakamura, looking for a takedown. Do pushes Nakamura against the cage but Nakamura circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Nakamura just misses with a punch to the body.
Nakamura is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Do rather than just go for the knockout.
Nakamura takes one to the side of the head.
Nakamura throws the left hand but Do avoids the punch easily.
Do lets loose with a powerful body kick. Nakamura will feel that in the morning.
Nakamura shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Do defends it nicely.

Nakamura lands with a right hand.
Nakamura walks into a left hand.
Do thows a body shot but no joy.
Do scores with the left hand. Nakamura knows he should have avoided that one.
Nakamura defending well as Do loads up on a big left hand.
Nakamura uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Do.

Nakamura closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Do tries to improve position but can't.

Nakamura trying to control the action but Do is working from the bottom.
Nakamura has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Do!
Nakamura tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Nakamura looking to control but Do is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Nakamura takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Nakamura swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Do is now in Nakamura's guard. A big mistake from Nakamura there, giving up the dominant position!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Nakamura is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Do is controlling him.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Shunsuke Nakamura.
Do cracks Nakamura with a good jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Do lands a head kick. Nakamura smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Do stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Do wants it to stay on the feet.

Nakamura fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Do, pushing him back against the cage.

Nakamura is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Do is keeping busy.

Do taking a breather.
Do is looking to break free of the clinch but Nakamura has double underhooks.

Nakamura swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Do throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Nakamura.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nakamura is looking to take a break and control but Do is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Do is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Nakamura wants to stand but Do is controlling his arm.
Do wants to control but Nakamura postures up.
Do is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Nakamura off and has taken his back!
Even with his hooks in, Do manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Do scores with punches to the body.
Do biding his time, controlling Nakamura.
Do missing with strikes.

Do looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
Do tries to keep control of the position but Nakamura is staying busy.
Do avoiding Nakamura 's attempts to control his hands.

Nakamura is in a bad position with Do working for a choke. Nakamura manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Do is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

He's locked it up tight! Nakamura's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Do picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
