PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Silent Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Silent Bob!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Shields!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shields closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Shields drags the fight down to the ground.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Shields doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Bob wants to pass the guard but Shields is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shields bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bob's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shields sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Bob is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Shields defends well.

Bob throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Shields escapes and throws Bob's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Bob tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Shields wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Shields looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Shields working the head and body with strikes.

Shields decides to stand back up. Shields steps back and let's Bob get back to his feet.
Shields shoots in but no luck this time.
Bob fails with the takedown.
Bob has a takedown stuffed.
Bob closes the distance and clinches up with Shields, looking for a takedown. Bob pushes Shields against the cage but Shields circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Silent Bob. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shields stuffs the takedown.

Shields closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Bob quickly recovers to half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Shields slows the pace down in half guard.

Bob looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Shields passes to side control.
Bob manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Shields trying to control from the bottom.

Bob looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Bob seems to be looking for submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shields pushes Bob off looking to stand but Bob dives back in and keeps control.

Bob is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shields doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Bob.
Shields wants to control but Bob is keeping busy.
Shields gets full guard.
Shields controls Bob momentarily but Bob frees himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Bob is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Shields is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Shields has escaped and now he's on top!

Shields stands up from guard. Let's bang!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Bob.
Nice sprawl there from Shields as Bob shoots in.
Shields fails with the takedown

and Bob counters with a takedown into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bob wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Shields, who protects the arm well.

Bob tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bob has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jake Shields will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



A momentary lapse in concentration from Bob enables Shields to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bob manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Bob looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Shields engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Shields has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bob is proving hard to escape from.

Shields avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Bob is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shields trying to control the position from guard on top but Bob is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Shields got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bob has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shields has managed to get both his arms back between Bob's legs - danger averted.
Bob can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Shields controls the pace.

Bob has an active guard here but Shields has managed to pass into half guard.
Shields controlling the action here.

Shields gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Bob tries for a takedown but Shields circles away easily

and Shields counters with a single leg into guard. Bob didn't expect that.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bob is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Shields is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Shields with a nice head shot there.
Shields not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Shields has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Bob to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Shields is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Bob pulls down on the head and he's put Shields to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Silent Bob!
