Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kris Mines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jermain Brooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kris Mines!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jermain Brooks!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mines changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Mines avoids the body shot from Brooks.

Mines closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Brooks quickly recovers to half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Mines tries to stand and escape but Brooks is controlling the position.
Brooks trying to control from the bottom.

Mines decides to return to a standing position.

Brooks tries to keep at a distance but Mines has taken the fight into the clinch.

Mines pulls guard.
Mines working a defensive guard here.
Brooks prevents Mines from getting back to his feet.
Brooks really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mines. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Brooks trying to control the position from guard on top but Mines is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brooks postures up.
Brooks content to stall in guard here.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Jermain Brooks has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Mines has a takedown stuffed.
Brooks throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mines's waist but Mines gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brooks off to one side.

Mines closes the distance and pushes Brooks back into the cage.

Brooks is fighting off a takedown attempt but Mines is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Brooks to the mat. Brooks regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Brooks trying to keep a closed guard but Mines is proving a slippery customer.
Brooks is pulling down on Mines's head to control his posture.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Mines thows a big elbow that misses.

Brooks controls Mines momentarily but Mines frees himself.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jermain Brooks hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Mines feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mines wants to stand but Brooks has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brooks is trying to control the position but Mines postures up.
Brooks might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mines kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Brooks is adopting a defensive guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jermain Brooks wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mines dives in and grabs Brooks's left leg, looking for a takedown. Brooks pushes down on Mines's head and hops out.
Mines slaps away a takedown attempt from Brooks, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Brooks tries a head kick but it misses.
Brooks wants to clinch up but Mines keeps it at a distance.
Mines gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Brooks holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kris Mines. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brooks is looking to break free of the clinch but Mines has double underhooks.
Brooks misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mines.
Brooks fails to pull guard.
Mines lands an uppercut.

Mines jumps guard and drags Brooks to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Brooks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mines swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mines lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Brooks!

Brooks reaches up to try and control the position but Mines seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Brooks rolls and tries to escape and now Mines has his back!

Mines patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
Mines is not going to allow Brooks to sit and survive in this position.
Brooks can't escape the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mines working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Mines is breathing heavily.
Mines missing with strikes.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Brooks has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kris Mines dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Mines shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Brooks is trying to defend but Mines finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Brooks has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mines is working away from the top position though.
Mines stalling.

Mines wants to work for an arm triangle but Brooks is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Brooks wants to control the action here but instead Mines manages to pass to full mount!
Brooks is looking to improve his position but Mines isn't that keen on the idea.

Mines is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Brooks can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Brooks wants to hold on but Mines pushes him away.

Mines get's back to his feet.
Brooks fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Mines.
Mines stuffs the takedown.
Brooks is looking to clinch.
Mines shoots for a takedown but Brooks saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mines throws a series of punches but Brooks avoids them all with ease.

Mines manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Brooks on his heels. He'll look to pass Brooks's guard now, I'm sure.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mines is looking to work some ground and pound but Brooks has wrist control.

Brooks wriggles free and stands up.
Mines stuffs the takedown attempt from Brooks. Brooks gets slowly back to his feet.
Kris Mines has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jermain Brooks.

Brooks bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Brooks is looking to take a break and control but Mines is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mines gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Mines trying to control but Brooks postures up.
Brooks tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Mines.

Mines kicks off Brooks and gets to his feet.
Mines fails with a takedown attempt.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Mines.

Brooks fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Brooks shoots for a double leg takedown but Mines sprawls well. He's pushed Brooks's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Brooks shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Brooks was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Mines is bucking up trying to escape but Brooks cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mines tries to hold on but Brooks postures up.
Brooks won't let Mines get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Brooks content just to control the position here.

Brooks is working for a guillotine from mount but Mines frees his head quite easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kris Mines will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Brooks is wriggling around trying to escape.
Mines thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Brooks working to try and regain half guard.
Mines controlling the pace for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Brooks can do anything to dispel that myth.
Brooks is trying to stand.

Brooks looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Mines tries to get the hooks in deep but Brooks pushed the leg off.
Brooks looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Brooks tries to break free.
Brooks trying to control but not successfully.
Brooks is in bad spot here.
Brooks controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Mines looking for the RNC.
Brooks wants to get back to his feet.
Mines missing with strikes.

Mines is persistently looking for the submission but Brooks is defending it well.
Brooks manages to reverse the position and now he's in Mines's guard. Nice work there by Brooks.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Brooks distracts Mines with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Mines is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Brooks is on the wrong end of a couple of strikes there.
Mines wants to stand and escape but Brooks is having none of it.
Mines controls Brooks momentarily but Brooks frees himself.

Brooks wants to control from the top but Mines keeps moving.
Brooks must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Brooks shoots in and bounces Mines off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Brooks wants to stand but Mines is controlling his posture from full guard.

Brooks thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mines had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Brooks defends it easily.
Jermain Brooks has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kris Mines is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Mines wants to stand and escape but Brooks is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kris Mines.
Well Mines has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
