Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jacek Halman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shogun Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shogun Rua has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacek Halman!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shogun Rua!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Halman paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Halman tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Rua counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Rua misses with a takedown attempt

and Halman counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rua won't be happy with that.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Rua manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Halman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Rua trying to mount his opponent but Halman defends it.
Rua tries to stand but can't do so whilst Halman controls his leg.
Rua performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rua is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Halman wants to control but Rua is keeping busy.

Rua looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Shogun Rua.

Halman drives through and clinches with Rua against the cage.
Halman tries to pull guard but Rua won't allow it.
Halman is breathing heavily.
Halman tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rua just stands there and leans against the cage.
Rua tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Rua breaks from the clinch.
Rua wants to clinch

and Halman counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Halman.
Halman is pressed up against the cage. Rua has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Halman down to the mat. Halman avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Jacek Halman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shogun Rua.

Rua gets tackled into the cage by Halman. Halman maintains the clinch.
Halman misses with an elbow over the top.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rua tries to pull guard but Halman holds him up against the cage and eventually Rua drops back down to his feet.
Rua is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Halman breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Halman darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rua is pressing down on Halman's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Halman drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rua dives on top into guard.
Rua slips nicely into half guard.

Rua wants to free his trapped foot but Halman is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Halman is looking for a sweep. Rua is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rua trying to control the action but Halman is working from the bottom.

Rua decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Rua looks to land a combination. Halman sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Rua shoots in for a takedown but Halman shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Halman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rua moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Halman stuffs the takedown.

Rua changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Halman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rua wants to control but Halman is keeping him busy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rua avoids the strikes from the bottom by Halman.
Halman wants to control but Rua postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shogun Rua dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Rua fails with the takedown.
Halman moves in looking to clinch but Rua pushes him off.

Halman has closed the distance and engaged Rua in a clinch.

Halman has Rua pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Halman pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Rua tumbling to the mat - Halman dives into Rua's guard.
Rua wants to stand but Halman is controlling the position.
Halman wants to stand but Rua has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rua is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Halman gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Rua.
Rua tries to score a body lock takedown but Halman shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Rua tries to stall but Halman uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

and Rua counters with an outside leg kick.

Rua misses with a wild combination.

Rua feints and then cracks Halman's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Halman down.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Rua is defended easily by Halman.
Rua doesn't manage to clinch there - Halman circles away.
Rua thuds his shin into the meat of Halman's side.
Rua closes the distance and clinches up with Halman, looking for a takedown. Rua pushes Halman against the cage but Halman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A head kick misses from Rua.
Halman shoots in for a takedown but Rua shows good takedown defense.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rua tries to clinch but Halman moves out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rua.
Rua fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Halman wants to clinch.
Rua ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rua tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Halman manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Halman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rua paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Rua shoots in but no luck this time.

Halman feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Halman keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Jacek Halman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rua fails with a takedown attempt.

Halman looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rua!

Halman throws a wild left hand from mount and Rua manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
It looks like Halman is going to stand back up.

Rua has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Halman is working away from the top position though.

Rua trying to strike off his back.
Rua is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rua working for a triangle but Halman defends it easily.
Rua looking to hit a scissor sweep but Halman is one step ahead there.

Halman controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Shogun Rua has got the better of the ground game so far.
Halman wants to stand but Rua is controlling his posture from full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rua controls Halman momentarily but Halman frees himself.
Rua keeping moving, preventing Halman from controlling successfully.
Rua is trying to control the position but Halman postures up.

We're going to have a standup here because Jacek Halman wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Halman doesn't manage to clinch there - Rua circles away.
Rua shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Halman but Halman pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Rua shoots for a double leg takedown but Halman sprawls well. He's pushed Rua's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Rua looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Halman closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Rua quickly recovers to half guard.

That was a close round but Jacek Halman did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Rua moves into range and clinches up with Halman.
Halman trying to control the position but instead, Rua has worked for underhooks and has pushed Halman into the cage.
Halman jumps guard but Rua stands there with Halman around his waist. Halman gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Rua is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Halman has escaped the position, nice work there.
Halman takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Halman throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Halman is trying to control Rua's posture but Rua avoids it.
Rua landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Rua creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Halman is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Rua has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Rua is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Halman's shoulder. That is not cool.

Rua stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Rua tries to clinch but Halman is having none of it.
Rua tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Halman manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rua looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Halman is fending him off so far but Rua persists. Nope, Halman circles away and we're back to standing.

Rua fails to land the takedown.
Halman throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rua shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Halman as he jumps to the side.

Halman fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rua sprawls well initially but Halman persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Rua moves in looking to clinch but Halman pushes him off.

Halman gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Halman has clasped his hands together around Rua's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Halman is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Rua will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

I would just about give that final round to Shogun Rua.
I think Rua has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
