Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Dempsey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Dempsey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shane Carwin!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Damien Edna and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carwin swings widly with a right hand

and Dempsey counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Carwin is trying to push Dempsey away but Dempsey has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Carwin is trying to force a seperation but Dempsey has the dominant position.
A frustrated look appears on Carwin's face as he tries to break the clinch.
A body shot lands from Dempsey.
Carwin takes a shot to the head.

Dempsey lands a takedown into guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Dempsey throwing strikes from guard but Carwin blocks nicely.
Dempsey is fighting to break Carwin's control of his arms but Carwin is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Carwin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Dempsey is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mark Dempsey just wasn't active enough.
Some wild striking there from Carwin.
Carwin throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Dempsey stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Carwin gets caught napping as Dempsey dives in and scores a takedown. Carwin manages to retain guard.

Dempsey trying to control the position from guard on top but Carwin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Carwin controls Dempsey momentarily but Dempsey frees himself.

Carwin has his foot on Dempsey's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dempsey works his way back into a safe position though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dempsey throws a strike but Carwin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Dempsey is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Carwin wants to control from the top but Dempsey keeps moving.
Dempsey might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mark Dempsey just wasn't active enough.
Carwin's jab looks to have found its range, popping Dempsey under the eye.

Carwin swings for the body but Dempsey moves out of range.

Carwin swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Carwin jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Shane Carwin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dempsey takes one to the chin there.
Carwin looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Carwin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dempsey was well out of range. Poor timing from Carwin.

so Dempsey counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Dempsey looking to sit in guard and control but Carwin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane Carwin dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A jab from Carwin misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Carwin. Dempsey does a little dance to reset his feet.
Carwin stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Dempsey.
Mark Dempsey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Carwin lands a right hook to the body.
Carwin lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Carwin throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Shane Carwin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carwin takes a swing at Dempsey's ribcage but misses.
Carwin misses the shot to the body.
Carwin scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Sloppy strikes from Dempsey. Those never looked like landing.
Carwin uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Shane Carwin seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Dempsey takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Carwin has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Dempsey forces Carwin back against the cage and clinches.

Dempsey has hold of one of Carwin's legs. Carwin is fighting the takedown attempt but Dempsey gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Carwin wants to sweep but no luck.

Dempsey throws a big right hand that misses.
Dempsey throws and elbow that misses. Carwin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Dempsey's guard. Nice move by Carwin!
Carwin wants to control from the top but Dempsey keeps moving.
Dempsey wants to get back to his feet but Carwin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Carwin passes Dempsey's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Dempsey is looking to improve his position.

Carwin is looking for a kimura but Dempsey is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Carwin to get the leverage.
Carwin is keen to just control but Dempsey is a slippery customer.

Dempsey makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Dempsey.

Carwin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dempsey kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Carwin controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Shane Carwin was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Carwin fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Dempsey looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Carwin thuds his right hand into Dempsey's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Carwin lands with a shot to the body.
Carwin is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Dempsey rather than just go for the knockout.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Carwin scores with a hook to the body. Dempsey takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Carwin scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Dempsey doesn't seem bothered though.
Carwin lands a body shot.
Carwin comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Carwin fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Carwin scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Carwin is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Carwin thuds a left hand into Dempsey's body.
Dempsey takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane Carwin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Dempsey shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dempsey showed some decent athleticism there.
Carwin wants to improve his position but Dempsey is controlling well.
Mark Dempsey overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dempsey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carwin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Carwin tries to roll over but Dempsey keeps him under control.
Dempsey throws a strike but Carwin avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Dempsey chips away with some ground and pound.

Carwin looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Carwin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Carwin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Carwin looking for a triangle here. Dempsey is fighting it but it looks tight! Carwin pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Dempsey is tapping out - this one is all over!
