PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Silver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Denny Prokopos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Prokopos is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Deep River Blues - Doc Watson. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Patrick Silver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Denny Prokopos!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Thiago Cunha and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice uppercut there from Silver.

Silver forces Prokopos back against the cage and clinches.
Prokopos controlling the action here for a moment.
Prokopos tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Prokopos has Silver pressed against the cage.
Silver wants to break free but Prokopos has control.
Silver wants to break the clinch but can't.
Prokopos's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Prokopos stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Silver blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Prokopos drops down looking for an ankle pick but Silver pulls his leg out and moves away.
Silver avoids the body shot from Prokopos.
Silver throws a wild body kick that Prokopos sees coming a mile off.
Patrick Silver seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A swing and a miss from Silver.
Nice takedown defense from Silver. No joy for Prokopos on that attempt.
Silver leaves Prokopos with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Patrick Silver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Denny Prokopos.
Silver throws a lazy uppercut

and Prokopos counters with a shoot takedown. Silver fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silveris looking to pass into half guard but Prokopos pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Prokopos is in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Prokopos drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Silver manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Prokopos has Silver in his guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Denny Prokopos hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Silver slips a straight right by Prokopos.
Silver tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Prokopos throws a hook but Silver avoids it easily.
Prokopos throws the left hand but Silver avoids the punch easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Silver dips to his left and cracks Prokopos with an uppercut!
Prokopos throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Prokopos closes the distance and clinches.
Prokopos blocking some punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Silver paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Silver gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Prokopos misses with the head strike.
Prokopos will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Silver up against the cage.
Prokopos is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Prokopos is trying to drag Silver to the mat but Silver just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Silver is trying to break the clinch but Prokopos has him pressed against the cage.
Prokopos is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Prokopos wants the takedown. Silver is fighting it off but Prokopos persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Silver's guard against the cage.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Patrick Silver wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Denny Prokopos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Silver throws a head kick but Prokopos moves out of range.

Denny Prokopos seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Silver is trying to push Prokopos away but Prokopos has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Silver's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Prokopos is trying to trip Silver. He has hold of a leg but Silver is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Prokopos persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Prokopos must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Silver is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

I've got Prokopos winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
