PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Grant Fletcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gunner State (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). State has chosen thunderstruck as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Grant Fletcher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gunner State!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
State shoots in but Fletcher avoids the takedown attempt easily.
State misses the jab.
State throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Fletcher shoots in for a double leg but State sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Fletcher moves into the clinch successfully.
State prevents a takedown attempt there.

State manages to break the clinch.
Fletcher is looking to clinch.
State takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Fletcher staying out of range there.
State avoids a punch combination nicely.

State scores with a takedown into Fletcher's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

State tries to free his leg and advance position but Fletcher is retaining full guard.

State gets to his feet - Fletcher follows without any prompting.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Fletcher lands a head kick. State smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Fletcher changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. State tries to avoid it but Fletcher manages to keep hold of a leg and drag State to the ground. State escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

State looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. State connects with a nice short shot to Fletcher's temple.
State is looking to take a break and control but Fletcher is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
State seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

State is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fletcher defends it well.
State takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Fletcher has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but State can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

State has gone for a leg lock! Fletcher slips out almost immediately though and dives into State's guard.

State looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Fletcher has picked State up and slammed him! State can't keep hold of the triangle and Fletcher manages to pass to side control!

Fletcher feints and as State raises his hands in defense, Fletcher changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
State is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Ground and pound from State.
Fletcher on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
State is looking to advance position but Fletcher won't allow it.
Fletcher trying to control but State postures up.

State stands up out of the half guard.
Fletcher misses with a takedown attempt - State sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
State swats away the attempt to clinch by Fletcher.

State drives through with a takedown into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
State postures up.

State trying to move into half guard but instead Fletcher has managed to sweep!
Fletcher wanted to stand there but State had control of the position.

State looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Fletcher is defending well. State quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Fletcher has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! State celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
