Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hiro Kikui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nick Diaz had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 172.1lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz misses with a takedown

and Kikui counters by clinching up.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Diaz is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kikui gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Kikui breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kikui swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kikui throws a series of strikes that have Diaz backpedaling.

Kikui has managed to clinch.
Kikui tries to break free but Diaz pushes him back against the cage.
Diaz changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kikui fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Kikui counters with a three punch combo that has Diaz backing up. Diaz nods at Kikui to acknowledge the strikes.
Diaz is breathing heavily.

and Kikui counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Kikui shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Diaz eats them both and turns towards Kikui to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Diaz gets tackled into the cage by Kikui. Kikui maintains the clinch.
Kikui lands a body shot in the clinch.
Diaz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kikui smiles and moves away.
Kikui throws a series of punches but Diaz moves out of range.

and Kikui counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kikui engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Kikui is looking to stand up but Diaz won't let him.

Kikui decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Diaz, up you get!
Diaz shoots and misses
enabling Kikui to counter with a crisp jab.
Kikui works over Diaz's head and body with a nice combination.

Kikui misses with a wild combination.
Kikui lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Diaz circles away quickly and effectively.
Diaz throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kikui throws a right and a left that Diaz avoids nicely.
Kikui rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Diaz moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Diaz. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Diaz closes the distance looking to clinch
enabling Kikui to counter with a crisp jab.

Kikui throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Diaz tries to clinch but Kikui moves away
and Kikui counters with a nice uppercut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Diaz with a poor takedown
and Kikui cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Oh Diaz is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kikui throws a nice looking combination but Diaz bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Diaz seems to have got his legs back now.
Kikui lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Kikui.
No joy there for Kikui, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Kikui circles away from the clinch attempt
and Kikui counters with a left right combination that sends Diaz crashing to the mat - Kikui wastes no time in diving on top of him and pounding Diaz out for a TKO! Devastating finish!
