PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Scotty Cornes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jed Rox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jed Rox was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scotty Cornes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jed Rox!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Steve Montenegro and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rox tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cornes swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cornes looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Cornes takes a body punch but keeps moving.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rox fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Rox has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cornes avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Cornes breaks from the clinch.
Rox scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Cornes doesn't seem bothered though.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Rox.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rox is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cornes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rox trying to control the position but Cornes is working away.
Rox has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Cornes!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Rox looking to secure an arm triangle but Cornes defends it well.
Cornes tries to reverse the position but Rox maintains control.

Rox with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Cornes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rox on the ground.
Cornes is trying desperately to improve position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rox is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Cornes is surviving well by controlling Rox's body position as best he can.
Cornes can't escape the position.

Rox working for a guillotine from mount but Cornes is in no mood to give up.
You get the feeling that Cornes really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Cornes tries to hold on but Rox pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rox wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Cornes tries to hold on but Rox pushes him away.
Cornes really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Cornes wants to hold on but Rox pushes him away.
Cornes regains half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Cornes is defending against the submission attempts here by Rox.
Rox wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cornes keeps working.
Cornes won't allow Rox to pass to mount.
Rox moves nicely into side control.
Cornes on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Rox trying to control the action but Cornes is working from the bottom.

Rox wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cornes, who protects the arm well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cornes is looking to reverse the position.

Rox tries for a kimura but Cornes is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jed Rox dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Cornes shoots in and bounces Rox off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Rox working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cornes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Rox is tightening it up a little... Cornes has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Cornes reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Cornes taps out! nice BJJ there by Rox!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Jed Rox!
