Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gordon Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Desi Venetiaan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Venetiaan closes this distance looking for a takedown but Freeman circles away.
Venetiaan misses with a wild combination.

Venetiaan lands with an uppercut that bounces Freeman off the cage and back into range.

Venetiaan rushes Freeman and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Venetiaan is trying to push Freeman away but Freeman has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Freeman breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Venetiaan looks for the body kick but Freeman saw that one coming.

Freeman drops his hands momentarily and Venetiaan takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Venetiaan drops his shoulder and cracks Freeman with a huge uppercut! Freeman goes down! Can Venetiaan finish him?

Venetiaan wants to work for an arm triangle but Freeman is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

It looks like Venetiaan might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Venetiaan shoots for a double leg takedown but Freeman sprawls well. He's pushed Venetiaan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Venetiaan fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Freeman manages to avoid it.
Venetiaan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
