PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Pentangeli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Austin kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is SHATTERED DREAMS. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Pentangeli. No joy for Austin on that attempt.
Pentangeli lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Pentangeli digs a right hand into Austin's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Austin's gas tank.

A short body shot lands from Pentangeli as the two fighters clinch.
Pentangeli presses Austin against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Pentangeli lands a left hand that snaps the head of Austin backwards.

Pentangeli's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pentangeli can do anything to dispel that myth.

Pentangeli is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Pentangeli seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pentangeli in particular looking to stall.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Pentangeli connects with a nice short shot to Austin's temple.
Well, if Pentangeli is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Pentangeli moves nicely into side control.
Pentangeli content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Pentangeli has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Frank Pentangeli.
Austin has his takedown stuffed
and Pentangeli counters with a three punch combo that has Austin backing up. Austin nods at Pentangeli to acknowledge the strikes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Austin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Austin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pentangeli's waist but Pentangeli gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Austin off to one side.

Pentangeli shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Austin's guard.

Pentangeli is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Pentangeli lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Austin down.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Pentangeli avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Pentangeli displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Austin.
Austin tries for a takedown but Pentangeli sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Austin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Austin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pentangeli sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Austin somewhat.
Pentangeli's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Pentangeli duly obliges.
Pentangeli has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Pentangeli lands a big elbow.
Pentangeli postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Austin looks a forlorn figure.

Pentangeli is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Austin can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Austin is rocked!

Pentangeli looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Austin covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
