PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Boris Piranov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alvin Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Piranov kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is "Los"-Rammstien. Cox has chosen Pop goes the weasle as his entrance music. Alvin Cox has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Boris Piranov's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Boris Piranov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alvin Cox!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Fedor Mirinova and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Piranov looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Cox is trying to stand.
Piranov is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Piranov with the ground and pound from mount.
Cox sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Piranov prevents Cox from standing back up.

Piranov is trying to work for a kimura but Cox is defending well.
Cox is looking to escape.

Piranov decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Cox showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Piranov.

Piranov drives through with a takedown into guard.
Piranov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Piranov thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Cox working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Piranov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Piranov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Piranov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Piranov stands up and waves to Cox to follow him.

and Piranov counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Piranov.
Piranov is breathing heavily.
Cox wants to stand but Piranov is controlling the position.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Piranov's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Piranov decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Piranov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Piranov performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Cox is looking for a sweep. Piranov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Piranov stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Cox swinging wilding here.

Piranov has taken the fight to the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Piranov gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Cox regains guard.

Cox throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Piranov escapes and throws Cox's legs to the side, diving into side control!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Piranov really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Cox is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Piranov is controlling him well.
Cox tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Piranov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Piranov decides to stand back up. Piranov steps back and let's Cox get back to his feet.
Cox misses with a combination

and Piranov counters by clinching up.
Piranov fails to pull guard.
Piranov misses with a knee to the head.
Piranov leaning his opponent against the cage.

Cox has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Piranov uses from the top position.
Piranov is stalling in the full guard.
Piranov makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cox uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Piranov shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Piranov is looking to take a break and control but Cox is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Piranov is pressing down on Cox's thigh, looking to free his foot. Cox is holding on for now.
Piranov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cox is looking to improve his position.
Piranov is looking to advance position but Cox won't allow it.
Piranov passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Cox!

Piranov looking for a guillotine from mount but Cox is having none of it.
Piranov takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Piranov connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Piranov is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Cox misses with a takedown

and Piranov counters with a takedown into side control.
Cox wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Piranov decides to stand up, so the ref orders Cox to his feet.
Cox throws a right and a left that both miss.

Piranov looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Cox!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Piranov working the ground and pound effectively.

Piranov gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Piranov lands a front kick.
Piranov misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cox throws a right hand that Piranov ducks under and follows up with a left that Piranov also avoids with ease.
Piranov misses with a two punch combination.
Cox takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Piranov darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Piranov trying to control from half guard but Cox is working away.
Piranov is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Cox is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Boris Piranov dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Cox throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Piranov.
Piranov misses with the combination.
Cox with a lazy takedown attempt

so Piranov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Piranov thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Piranov trying to control the position from guard on top but Cox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cox is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Cox wants to break free but Piranov has control.

Piranov turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Piranov manages to end up in side control.
Boris Piranov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cox pushes Piranov away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Piranov gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
A lull in the action here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cox manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Piranov is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cox can do to turn this around?

Cox stands up out of the half guard.
Cox Rushes Piranov and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Piranov is up against the cage and has nowhere to go. Cox Piles on the pressure and Piranov crumples to the floor! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alvin Cox!
