PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michael Belcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Poio MT (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). MT has chosen Pendulum - The Island (Tiesto remix) as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Belcher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Poio MT!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Edson Gomes and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MT tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
MT fails with an attempt to clinch.
MT tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Belcher manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Belcher looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? MT is fending him off so far but Belcher persists. Nope, MT circles away and we're back to standing.
Some wild striking there from MT.
Belcher shoots in looking for a takedown but MT manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Belcher's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
MT goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Belcher looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Belcher. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Belcher shoots in for a double leg but MT sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Belcher shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as MT sprawls well. MT wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Belcher gets slowly back to his feet.
MT tries a head kick but it misses.
No luck for MT with that takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Belcher shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts MT as he jumps to the side.

MT feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
MT wants to control from the top but Belcher keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Belcher is trying to control the position from the bottom.
MT is looking to stand up but Belcher won't let him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
MT throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Belcher.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Belcher.
This has been an exciting period of action!
MT scores with the left hand. Belcher knows he should have avoided that one.
Belcher dives in and grabs MT's left leg, looking for a takedown. MT pushes down on Belcher's head and hops out.
MT is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Belcher will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Belcher crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from MT - the referee stops the clock and Belcher gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says MT. Belcher manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Belcher is breathing heavily.

MT closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - MT lands in his opponent's guard.
MT trying to stand up but can't free himself from Belcher's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
MT is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
MT trying to control but Belcher is working from the bottom.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
MT wants to stand but Belcher is controlling his posture from full guard.
Belcher might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Poio MT.
MT lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Belcher shoots in and drives through. MT sprawls well.
MT misses with a double jab.

Belcher gets tackled into the cage by MT. MT maintains the clinch.
Belcher drops to a knee looking for a takedown but MT gets the underhooks and prevents it.

MT breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Belcher fails with a takedown attempt.
MT goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Poio MT dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


MT tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
MT misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Poio MT seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Belcher is defended easily by MT.
Nice takedown defense from Belcher. No joy for MT on that attempt.
MT tries to clinch there but Belcher circles away.
MT lands a jab.
MT shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Belcher counters with a single leg into guard. MT didn't expect that.
Belcher is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
MT is trying to control the position but Belcher postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
MT seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
MT throws a wild body kick that Belcher sees coming a mile off.
Belcher has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
MT is breathing heavily.
MT throws a nice inside leg kick.
A big right from MT misses.
Belcher misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Belcher shoots in for a takedown but MT shows good takedown defense.

Belcher fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but MT avoids it really well and circles away.
MT tries to clinch but Belcher moves out of range.

MT has taken the fight to the clinch.

MT escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A right-left combo lands from MT.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Belcher dives in and grabs MT's left leg, looking for a takedown. MT pushes down on Belcher's head and hops out.
MT scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
MT lands with a kick to the ribs.
MT throws a head kick but Belcher moves out of range.
MT lands the left hand.
MT paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

MT clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
MT wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Belcher has him pressed against the cage.
Belcher on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by MT as Belcher tries to tie him up.
Belcher goes for a takedown in the clinch but MT prevents it.

MT manages to break the clinch.
Good exchange - MT coming out on top.
No luck for Belcher with that takedown attempt.
Belcher displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from MT.
MT is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Belcher shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has MT pinned against the cage. MT gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
MT stalks Belcher and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Belcher's face. Belcher staggers backwards, shaken.

Belcher tries to keep at a distance but MT has taken the fight into the clinch.

MT breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
MT buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Belcher shoots in for a takedown but MT shows good takedown defense.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Belcher on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Belcher takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Poio MT showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

MT has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Belcher fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
MT looks to land a combination. Belcher sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
MT lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
MT lands a jab to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
MT slaps away a takedown attempt from Belcher, before circling back to the center of the mat.
MT fakes the leg kick and cracks Belcher in the body.
Belcher fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Belcher. That's going to take a lot out of him.
MT looks to land a combination. Belcher sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


Belcher is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Belcher walks into a jab.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
MT throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Belcher's head.
Oh Belcher is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from MT! Belcher is out on his feet! MT rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Belcher is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Belcher is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Poio MT!
