Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rand James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Piper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rand James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Peter Piper!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Piper shoots for a double leg takedown but James sprawls well. He's pushed Piper's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Piper has closed the distance and engaged James in a clinch.
Piper wants a takedown.

Piper is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. James can't fight it off and eventually Piper manages to take the fight to the floor. James looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Piper trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
James is looking to stand up but Piper isn't so interested in that idea.
Piper wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.

James wants to stand but Piper is controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Peter Piper was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Nice sprawl there from James as Piper shoots in.
Rand James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Piper.
James swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Piper counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Piper pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Piper misses with a kick to the body.
Piper connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Piper tries to land a front kick but James steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

James looks to land a combination but Piper avoids it well.
Piper misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from James.
Piper misses with a few strikes there.
James misses with a leg kick.
James misses with a double jab.
James misses with a wild combination.
Piper is looking to clinch.
Piper fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Piper is looking to clinch but James is avoiding it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
James walks into a left hand.
Piper throws a half hearted mid kick.

Piper closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. James did well to prevent Piper getting side control.
James moves into full guard.
Piper wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position.
James pulls Piper in close to prevent any damage.
Piper trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

James pushes Piper off and gets back to his feet.
James plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!


It looks like Peter Piper has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Piper connects with a body shot that sends James's belly button to the back.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Piper gets a double leg takedown into James's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Piper missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


James avoids a punch combination nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Piper looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Piper moves into the clinch successfully.
Piper changes levels and goes for a takedown here. James fights it off and pushes away nicely.
James connects with a leg kick. Piper looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Piper takes a swing at James's ribcage but misses.
James throws a low kick but Piper moves out of range easily.
James avoids the head kick by Piper.
James blocks a low kick nicely.

James digs a good hook to Piper's body.
A jab from James misses.
Piper tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. James manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

James scores with a takedown into Piper's guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Rand James wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
James tries a head kick but it misses.
James ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Piper moves away.
Piper looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Piper misses with a double jab
and James counters with a slapping leg kick.
Piper is breathing heavily.

Piper closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming James to the mat! James manages to get full guard.
Piper trying to control but James is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Piper throws a strike but James rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Piper had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. James defends it easily.
James wants to control from the top but Piper keeps moving.
James is stalling in the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Rand James has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Piper crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from James - the referee stops the clock and Piper gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says James. Piper manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Piper takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Piper doesn't manage to clinch there - James circles away.
Rand James is winning the standup battle so far.
James scores with a one two! Piper had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Peter Piper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
James lands with a slapping head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rand James dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Peter Piper's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


James throws a nice looking combination but Piper bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
James takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Piper throws a body punch but James moves out of range.
James circles away from the clinch attempt

and James counters with a shoot takedown. Piper fights it but they end up in guard.
James stays in close to Piper's body and controls the position.
Rand James overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Piper is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
James passes Piper's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Piper takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Piper makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Piper.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Piper is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

James engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Piper wants to improve his position but instead James has moved into half guard.
James is taking a breather. Piper says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
James is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Piper!
Piper tries to hold on but James pushes him away.
Piper tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
James forces the positional change into back control.
James just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

James punishes Piper with strikes from the back mount.
I really don't envy Piper right now.
Piper is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Piper is trying to stand back up.

James controlling the position well here. Piper rolled but James kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Piper is trying to break free.

James working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Piper is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and James has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Piper taps out!
