PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jesse Reeding (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Bailey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jesse Reeding!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bob Bailey!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bailey throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Reeding tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bailey is in Reeding's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Bailey engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Reeding knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bailey on the ground.
Reeding is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bailey throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Reeding works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Bailey is stalling in the full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Reeding pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Reeding tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Bailey closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Reeding is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Reeding wants to control but Bailey postures up.
Bailey is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Reeding's shoulder. That is not cool.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Bob Bailey hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Bailey shoots for a double leg takedown but Reeding sprawls well. He's pushed Bailey's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Bailey shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Bailey was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

It looks like Bailey might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Bob Bailey wasn't active enough on the ground.
Bailey fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Jesse Reeding has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Bailey.
Reeding stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Reeding wants it to stay on the feet.
Reeding throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Bailey fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Reeding scores with a head kick. Bailey tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.


It looks like Bob Bailey has been cut.
Bailey swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Reeding counters with a head kick that drops Bailey to the mat! Bailey scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

Bob Bailey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Reeding throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Bailey blocks it with crossed arms.

Reeding breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Reeding throws a head kick that misses.
Bailey tries to score a power double leg takedown but Reeding sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bailey somewhat.
Bob Bailey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bailey shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Reeding's guard.
Bailey not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bailey throws an elbow but Reeding slips to the side and avoids it well.
Reeding seems a little lost for a moment, as Bailey dominates the positioning.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Bailey's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Reeding slaps away a takedown attempt from Bailey, before circling back to the center of the mat.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jesse Reeding will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Bob Bailey's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
