PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steve Manahan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Rogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe Rogan will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Manahan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Rogan!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rogan lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Manahan backs up against the cage.
Manahan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rogan pinned against the cage. Rogan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Rogan tries to clinch but Manahan is having none of it.
Rogan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Manahan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Rogan has his foot on Manahan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Manahan works his way back into a safe position though.

Rogan will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Manahan wants to pass the guard but Rogan is keeping the position.

Rogan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rogan manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Rogan postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Manahan looks a forlorn figure.
Manahan bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Rogan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Manahan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rogan is defending against the submission attempts here by Manahan.

Manahan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rogan defends it well.

Manahan stops Rogan from getting back to his feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Manahan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rogan swivels and escapes.

Manahan drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Rogan is looking to improve his position.
Manahan is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Manahan is nestled in close to Rogan, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Manahan is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Rogan is trying desperately to improve position.
Rogan takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rogan is rocked!
Manahan is landing with some decent strikes but Rogan is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Rogan is still in real trouble! Can Manahan finish him?

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Manahan swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Rogan is now in Manahan's guard. A big mistake from Manahan there, giving up the dominant position!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rogan postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Manahan wants to sweep here but Rogan controlling him for the moment.
Rogan seems to have recovered his senses.
Rogan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rogan postures up and lands a big shot to Manahan's brow.
Rogan content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Rogan lands a couple of elbows.
Manahan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rogan is one step ahead there.
Manahan can't keep his opponent in guard - Rogan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Rogan wants to work for an arm triangle but Manahan is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Manahan makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Manahan.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rogan passes into half guard.
Rogan winds up and cracks Manahan with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Manahan dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
