Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Juan Mata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mata comes into the arena with Jimmi Hendrix - Voodoo Child blaring out of the sound system. Anderson Shields has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Juan Mata's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mata wants to clinch up but Shields keeps it at a distance.
Nice body kick from Mata.
Shields will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Mata connects with a leg kick. Shields looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Shields fails in his attempt to clinch.
Shields has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Shields there as he acknowledges the shot.
Shields shoots in looking for a takedown but Mata manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Shields's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Good leg kick by Mata there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shields accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mata is on top in guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Juan Mata will probably get the nod.

Mata seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Mata seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Shields for as long as he can get away with.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Juan Mata.

Shields moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Shields changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mata tries to avoid it but Shields manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mata to the ground. Mata escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Mata enables Shields to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mata manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Shields is looking to work some ground and pound but Mata has wrist control.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mata thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shields's head.

That was a close second round but I would say that Juan Mata will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Shields fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mata, pushing him back against the cage.
Mata jumps guard but Shields stands there with Mata around his waist. Mata gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Shields changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mata looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shields is looking to take a break and control but Mata is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Anderson Shields has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Shields tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Shields has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Juan Mata.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mata, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
