PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michael Halo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryo Miyaichi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Halo comes into the arena with Squeeze 1st-Jay-Z blaring out of the sound system. Michael Halo has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Halo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryo Miyaichi!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Chad Campbell and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miyaichi has his takedown stuffed
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Halo connects with a solid leg kick.
Halo lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Miyaichi at a distance.
Miyaichi takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Halo clobbers Miyaichi with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Halo punishes Miyaichi's body with a nice straight punch.

Halo gets caught flat footed, as Miyaichi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Miyaichi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Halo swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Miyaichi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Halo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Miyaichi has managed to get both his arms back between Halo's legs - danger averted.

Halo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Halo throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Miyaichi stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Halo's corner calls for a 1-2. Halo obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Halo moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Halo.

Halo throws a right hand that Miyaichi ducks under and follows up with a left that Miyaichi also avoids with ease.
Halo comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Michael Halo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryo Miyaichi.

The crowd cheers as Halo lands an impressive looking overhand right. Miyaichi doesn't seem phased though.
Miyaichi shoots for a double leg takedown but Halo sprawls well. He's pushed Miyaichi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Halo scores with a head kick. Miyaichi tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Halo is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Miyaichi takes one to the chin there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Miyaichi takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Good leg kick by Halo there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Halo looks to land a combination. Miyaichi sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
