Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Brenno Penna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penna's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, APOCALYPSE NOW. Jay Johnson will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brenno Penna!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penna misses with a takedown
and Johnson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Penna throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Johnson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Johnson throws a right hand that Penna ducks under and follows up with a left that Penna also avoids with ease.
Penna gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Johnson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Johnson stuffs the takedown attempt from Penna. Penna gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brenno Penna. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Penna tries to clinch but Johnson is having none of it.

Penna tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Johnson was well out of range. Poor timing from Penna.

Penna turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Johnson is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Penna in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Johnson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Penna has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Penna looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Penna has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Johnson pushes Penna away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Penna gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Penna is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Johnson has escaped the position, nice work there.

Penna goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Johnson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Penna's guard! Nice work there by Johnson!

Johnson is looking to work some ground and pound but Penna has wrist control.

Johnson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Penna bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Johnson's guard.
Johnson is looking to stand up but Penna isn't so interested in that idea.

Penna stands and throws Johnson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Johnson is trying to buck Penna off.

Penna is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Johnson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Johnson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Penna asserts his dominance and retains side control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Penna doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Johnson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Penna circles away quickly and effectively.

Penna throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Penna changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Johnson tries to avoid it but Penna manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Johnson to the ground. Johnson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Penna throws a right hand that Johnson ducks under and follows up with a left that Johnson also avoids with ease.

and Johnson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Penna shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Johnson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Johnson wants to stand but Penna is controlling the position.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Penna manages to pass to side control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Penna is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Johnson sees it coming and defends easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Johnson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Johnson tries to bum rush Penna with a series of wild strikes but Penna uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Johnson might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Johnson leaves Penna with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Johnson catches Penna with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Penna is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
