PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steve Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Pain!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson moves in looking to clinch but Pain pushes him off.
Johnson is breathing heavily.
Johnson avoids a punch combination nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Pain.
Pain tries to close the distance and clinch but Johnson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Pain shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Pain tries to free his leg and advance position but Johnson is retaining full guard.
Pain is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Pain looking to pass the guard.
Pain's corner is telling him to maintain position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mark Pain hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Johnson tries to move into range but Pain moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson keeps the fight on the outside.

Pain throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Pain is in Johnson's guard.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet but Pain is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Johnson being controlled here, momentarily.
Pain sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Johnson's guard.
Pain is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Pain working Johnson over with strikes.
Pain controlling the pace.
Pain working the head and body with strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pain seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pain is nestled in close to Johnson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Pain lands with a punch from half guard.
Still in half guard, Pain seems content to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pain is looking to advance position but Johnson won't allow it.
Johnson trying to control from the bottom.
Pain looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Pain drops an elbow to the side of Johnson's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnson has hold of Pain's hands but Pain slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Pain is controlling the pace.
Pain works his way into side control.
Pain advances to full mount.
Pain connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Pain with shots to the head and body - Johnson looks very uncomfortable down there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pain lands a heavy elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
BOOM! Pain connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Johnson in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Pain lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Pain fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Oooooh, big shot lands for Pain! Johnson is hurt baaadly! Pain is firing away with more strikes - Johnson is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mark Pain!
