PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Justin Roza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roger Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roger Silva struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.5lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Justin Roza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Roger Silva!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roza scores with a jab to the body.
Roza stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Roza swinging wildly here.
Roza looks to land a left hand but Silva moved out of range nicely.
Roza tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Silva swivels and escapes.
Roza swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Silva uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Roza.
Silva takes one to the chin there.
Roza throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Roza keeps the fight on the outside.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Silva slips under a jab.
A nice leg kick lands there from Silva.

Silva has closed the distance and engaged Roza in a clinch.
Silva looks gassed!
Silva is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Silva wants to get back to striking at distance but Roza won't allow it.
Roza tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Silva with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Roza is trying to force a seperation but Silva has the dominant position.

Silva is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Roza manages to break the clinch.

Roza shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Silva is trying to defend but Roza finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Roza wants to free his trapped foot but Silva is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Silva tries to pass the half guard into mount. Roza knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Roza is trying to maintain the position but Silva is very close to passing his half guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Roza fails with the takedown.

Silva is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.


That has opened up Roger Silva's cut even more.
Silva misses with a low kick as Roza jumps back.
Sloppy strikes from Roza. Those never looked like landing.

Silva feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Roza's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Silva is looking to clinch but Roza is avoiding it.
Roza lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Roza swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Silva takes one to the side of the head.
Silva takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
A solid leg kick lands there for Silva.
Silva keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Roza.
Silva takes a jab right on the kisser.
Roza is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Roza misses with a straight right.
Silva walks into a straight right hand from Roza.
Roza throws a shot from downtown. Silva moves away and avoids it.
Roza uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Silva is still on wobbly legs! Can Roza finish him?


The cut above Roger Silva's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Roza fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Silva looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Justin Roza is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Roza shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Silva manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Roza stands and throws Silva's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Roza just content to control the position.
Justin Roza overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Roza passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Silva!

Roza is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Silva can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Silva seems to have recovered his senses.
Roza manages to capitalize on a mistake by Silva to take his back!
You can see the frustration on Silva's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Silva is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Roza.
Roza has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Silva can't escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Roza is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Silva is defending well though. Roza let's go of the attempt for now.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Silva shoots for a double leg takedown but Roza sprawls well. He's pushed Silva's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Justin Roza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Roza connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Silva momentarily.

Silva closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Roza is looking to control Silva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Roza avoid being mounted?

Roza is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Silva's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Silva's back!

Silva takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Silva manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.

Silva shoots in looking for a takedown. Roza tries to sprawl out of it but Silva keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Roza manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Roza lands a jab to the head.

Roza lunges at Silva with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Silva's hand.
Roza tries to bum rush Silva with a series of wild strikes but Silva uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Silva defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Roza.
Roza lands a jab-cross combination.
Silva takes a jab right on the kisser.
Silva throws a big shot that misses.
Silva tries to clinch but Roza is having none of it.
Silva gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Silva tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Roza is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Silva buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Silva!! Silva is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Roza throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Justin Roza!
