PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gary Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samat Gaziev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee comes to the cage accompanied by Big Man With A Big Gun-Nine Inch Nails. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gary Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Samat Gaziev!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gaziev shoots in for a takedown but Lee shows good takedown defense.
Lee throws a shot from downtown. Gaziev moves away and avoids it.
Lee just misses with a punch to the body.

Lee looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Lee trying to control the position from guard on top but Gaziev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lee content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Gaziev wants to sweep here but Lee controlling him for the moment.
Gaziev avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Gaziev wants to get back to his feet but Lee is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lee accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Lee distracts Gaziev with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lee with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Lee working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Gaziev is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gaziev looks gassed!
Lee postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Lee lands a couple of elbows.
Lee trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Lee decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gaziev keeps the fight on the outside.
Lee misses with a body shot.
Gaziev shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Lee sprawls well. Lee wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gaziev gets slowly back to his feet.
A looping hook to the body misses from Lee. Gaziev does a little dance to reset his feet.

Gaziev uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Lee.
Lee misses with a left hand

and Gaziev counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Gaziev is looking for a kimura but Lee is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gaziev to get the leverage.
Gaziev seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lee does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Lee works his way to full guard. Good work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gaziev won't allow Lee to sweep him here.
Lee wants to stand up but Gaziev is controlling him.
Lee wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Gaziev counters with a series of strikes. Lee will be more careful next time no doubt.
Gaziev shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lee defends it nicely.

and Gaziev counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Lee tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gaziev paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gaziev.
Samat Gaziev is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lee slaps away a takedown attempt from Gaziev, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Gary Lee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Samat Gaziev.
Gaziev is breathing heavily.

Lee fails in his attempt to clinch.
Gaziev will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lee throws an overhand right that lands on Gaziev's shoulder, as Gaziev tries to avoid the shot.

and Gaziev counters with a takedown into side control.
Lee manages to get back to half guard.
Lee is looking for a sweep. Gaziev is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lee pushes Gaziev off looking to stand but Gaziev dives back in and keeps control.

Lee knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gaziev on the ground.
The fighters are battling for position here. Lee manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lee wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Lee throws a hook but Gaziev avoids it easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lee.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gaziev shoots in looking for a takedown. Lee tries to sprawl out of it but Gaziev keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lee manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Lee misses with a right hand
and Gaziev counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Gaziev takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Lee wants to clinch.

Lee stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lee wants it to stay on the feet.
Gaziev tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lee sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gaziev somewhat.
Gary Lee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Samat Gaziev.
Gaziev moves out of range of the strikes.

Gaziev gets tackled into the cage by Lee. Lee maintains the clinch.
Gaziev tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Lee just stands there and leans against the cage.
Gary Lee is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Lee has Gaziev pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Lee pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Gaziev tumbling to the mat - Lee dives into Gaziev's guard.
Lee is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Lee has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Gary Lee has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

and Lee decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gaziev's guard.
Gaziev is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gary Lee wasn't doing enough on the ground.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Samat Gaziev has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Lee has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
