PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hriday Kakkar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santos Luminham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kakkar's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Call of Ktulu. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hriday Kakkar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Santos Luminham!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Luminham shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Kakkar counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Luminham wants to stand and escape but Kakkar is having none of it.
Kakkar wants to control from the top but Luminham keeps moving.
Kakkar lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kakkar postures up in Luminham's guard and throws a big left but Luminham blocks it.
Kakkar wants to stand and escape but instead Luminham has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Kakkar keeping moving, preventing Luminham from controlling successfully.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Luminham stands up from Kakkar's guard - Luminham perhaps looking for a knockout.

Luminham throws a quick inside leg kick.
Kakkar tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Luminham swivels and escapes.
Luminham closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kakkar circles away.

and Kakkar counters with a nice double leg into side control. Luminham won't be happy with that.
Kakkar tries to advance to mount but can't.
Kakkar working the strikes but Luminham uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Kakkar tries to pass to full mount but Luminham defends it.
Luminham avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kakkar.

Luminham manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kakkar manages to get himself to full guard.

Luminham stands and steps away. Kakkar gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Luminham tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kakkar sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Luminham somewhat.
Hriday Kakkar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Santos Luminham.
Luminham looks gassed!

and Kakkar counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Luminham keeping moving, preventing Kakkar from controlling successfully.
Kakkar postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kakkar with a flurry of punches that miss.
Luminham preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Kakkar trying to control the position from guard on top but Luminham is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kakkar pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Luminham is keeping the position for now.
Kakkar stays in close to Luminham's body and controls the position.
Kakkar trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kakkar shoots in looking for a takedown but Luminham manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kakkar's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hriday Kakkar dominated that round.
That's time! Kakkar's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Luminham is looking to clinch but Kakkar is avoiding it.
Luminham tries to clinch there but Kakkar circles away.

Luminham clinches up with Kakkar and pushes him back against the cage.
Luminham landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Luminham with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Luminham tries to score a body lock takedown but Kakkar shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Luminham is working for takedown but Kakkar is calmly controlling the position for now.
Luminham goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kakkar prevents it.
Hriday Kakkar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Santos Luminham.

Kakkar is adopting a defensive guard.
Luminham is breathing heavily.

Kakkar wants to get back to his feet but Luminham is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Kakkar controls Luminham momentarily but Luminham frees himself.
Kakkar avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Luminham stops Kakkar from standing up.
Kakkar is pulling down on Luminham's head to control his posture.

Hriday Kakkar has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Luminham misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Luminham tries to clinch up but Kakkar circles away and keeps his distance.
Luminham misses with a few strikes there.
Luminham fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hriday Kakkar is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kakkar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Luminham tries to avoid it but Kakkar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Luminham to the ground. Luminham escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Luminham is looking to clinch but Kakkar is avoiding it.

Kakkar shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kakkar was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Kakkar swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Luminham is now in Kakkar's guard. A big mistake from Kakkar there, giving up the dominant position!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Luminham gets to his feet - Kakkar follows without any prompting.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kakkar gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Kakkar takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Luminham tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Luminham has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kakkar is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Luminham is trying to trip Kakkar. He has hold of a leg but Kakkar is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Luminham persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Luminham throws and elbow that misses. Kakkar uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Luminham's guard. Nice move by Kakkar!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kakkar postures up in Luminham's guard and throws a big left but Luminham blocks it.
Kakkar not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Kakkar postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kakkar tries to stand but Luminham is controlling from the bottom.
Kakkar trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kakkar is looking to work some ground and pound but Luminham has wrist control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kakkar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Luminham swivels though and keeps the full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Hriday Kakkar will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Kakkar fails to land the takedown.

Kakkar closes the distance and pushes Luminham back into the cage.
Luminham tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Kakkar tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Luminham just stands there and leans against the cage.

Luminham jumps guard.
Luminham is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hriday Kakkar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kakkar keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Kakkar is refusing to be controlled, as Luminham sits in half guard.
Luminham takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Luminham trying to control the pace.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Luminham trying to control the action but Kakkar is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Santos Luminham was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Kakkar fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Luminham to the ground. Kakkar is now in Luminham's guard.

Kakkar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Luminham swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Luminham utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kakkar has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Kakkar looking to sit in guard and control but Luminham gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Luminham wants to control from the top but Kakkar keeps moving.
Luminham has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kakkar is proving hard to escape from.
Santos Luminham has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Luminham prevents Kakkar from getting back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Luminham looks to clinch

and Kakkar counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Luminham!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Luminham is desperately trying to improve his position but Kakkar has a good base and remains in mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hriday Kakkar showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kakkar, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
