PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chad Stockton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Mills (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stockton's entrance music is Remember The Name. A fine choice. The crowd seem to be enjoying Mills's choice of entrance music: Feel so Numb by Rob Zombie. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chad Stockton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Mills!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stockton shoots in looking for a takedown but Mills manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Stockton's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Stockton drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Stockton wants to control but Mills is keeping him busy.

Stockton swings around for an armbar but Mills sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Stockton's guard.

Stockton pushes Mills off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Stockton shoots in but Mills avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Stockton takes a kick to the side of the head.
A chopping leg kick lands by Mills.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mills tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Stockton was well out of range. Poor timing from Mills.

Mills lands a nice leg kick that just misses Stockton's sensitive parts.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Mills.

Stockton closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mills did well to prevent Stockton getting side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mills is staying active underneath Stockton, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mills really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stockton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Stockton seems to be working for a kimura but Mills defends the submission attempt.

Mills is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Stockton is keen to just control but Mills is a slippery customer.

Stockton uses his free foot to push down on Mills's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mills.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stockton throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Mills because Stockton loaded up on that one.

Stockton can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mills is looking to escape.

Stockton goes for an armbar but Mills turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Mills.
Mills must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Stockton wants to sweep but no luck.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Chad Stockton.
Stockton takes a kick to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chad Stockton will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mills fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Stockton.

Stockton is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Stockton decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Stockton takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Stockton tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mills sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Stockton somewhat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mills throws a head kick that Stockton semi-blocks.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Stockton takes a kick to the side of the head.
Mills lands with a slapping head kick.

Stockton moves into the clinch.
Mills is pressed up against the cage. Stockton has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mills down to the mat. Mills avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Mills just misses with a punch to the body.
Mills scores with a nice body kick.
Mills scores with a sloppy right hand. Stockton should have avoided that one.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Stockton crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Mills - the referee stops the clock and Stockton gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Mills. Stockton manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mills goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Mills throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
David Mills seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Stockton shoots for a double leg takedown but Mills sprawls well. He's pushed Stockton's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chad Stockton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stockton sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Mills throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

David Mills showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Stockton tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mills knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Stockton is just content to waste time from the top position. Mills takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Mills escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stockton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Stockton postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Stockton pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mills is keeping the position for now.
Mills is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Stockton decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mills, up you get!

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Mills. Stockton shrugs it off though.
Mills feints and then cracks Stockton's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Stockton down.

Mills scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Good leg kick by Mills there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Stockton shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mills sprawls well. Mills wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Stockton gets slowly back to his feet.
