PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Renaldo Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rex Reynolds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rex Reynolds struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. This should be a great matchup!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Renaldo Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rex Reynolds!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Reynolds paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Diaz changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Reynolds looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Diaz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Reynolds is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Diaz misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Reynolds parries the strikes from Diaz easily there. Diaz is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Reynolds to escape.

Diaz remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Diaz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Reynolds defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Diaz.
Reynolds really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Diaz swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Reynolds is now in Diaz's guard. A big mistake from Diaz there, giving up the dominant position!

Diaz has his foot on Reynolds's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Reynolds works his way back into a safe position though.

Diaz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Reynolds defends it easily.

Diaz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Reynolds sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Renaldo Diaz.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Diaz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
