Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Benny McCartny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Turchin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Benny McCartny!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Ivan Turchin!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Turchin has taken the fight to the clinch.
McCartny is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
McCartny changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Turchin fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Turchin gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Turchin has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but McCartny regains guard immediately.
McCartny is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Turchin thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
McCartny is looking to stand up but Turchin isn't so interested in that idea.
Turchin trying to stand up but can't free himself from McCartny's guard.

Turchin won't allow McCartny to get back to his feet.
McCartny tries to land a sweep but no joy.

McCartny scrambles and gets back to his feet.
McCartny tries a head kick but it misses.
McCartny swats away the attempt to clinch by Turchin.
Turchin goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Turchin moves into the clinch.

Turchin breaks from the clinch.

Turchin scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
McCartny is trying to buck Turchin off.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Turchin happy to just control the position for now.
McCartny is trying to get back to half guard.
McCartny manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Turchin tries to pass to full mount but McCartny defends it.
McCartny tries to get to full guard but Turchin has control of the leg.
McCartny is breathing heavily.

Turchin keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ivan Turchin was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Turchin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but McCartny paws at him with a jab and circles away.
McCartny throws a head kick but Turchin moves out of range.

Turchin darts in and clinches McCartny up against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McCartny wants to break the clinch but can't.
Turchin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. McCartny is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Turchin is trying to drag McCartny to the mat but McCartny just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Turchin blocks a punch to the side of the head.
McCartny could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
A short right from Turchin on the inside.
Turchin lands with a light punch inside.
McCartny is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McCartny is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Turchin fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

McCartny breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivan Turchin dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


McCartny misses with a takedown

and Turchin counters with a shoot takedown. McCartny fights it but they end up in guard.
Turchin stays in close to McCartny's body and controls the position.
McCartny wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Turchin wants to get up but he can't break McCartny's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Turchin tries to free his leg and advance position but McCartny is retaining full guard.
Turchin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Turchin content to stall in guard here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ivan Turchin.

Turchin gets a clinch.

Turchin gets control of McCartny's arms and successfully pulls guard. Turchin will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
McCartny passes into half guard.
Turchin is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
McCartny working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

McCartny looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Turchin is trying is best to control the position here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Turchin tries to roll over but McCartny keeps him under control.
Turchin wants to control but McCartny is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Turchin is doing well to control the position and prevent McCartny from advancing to side control.
McCartny trying to control the action but Turchin is working from the bottom.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
McCartny is controlling the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ivan Turchin wasn't active enough on the ground.
Turchin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McCartny.
McCartny takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Turchin fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McCartny avoids it really well and circles away.
McCartny shoots in looking for a takedown. Turchin tries to sprawl out of it but McCartny keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Turchin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Benny McCartny. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McCartny shoots in for a takedown but Turchin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Turchin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Turchin is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
McCartny can't keep his opponent in guard - Turchin advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Turchin is pressing down on McCartny's thigh, looking to free his foot. McCartny is holding on for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ivan Turchin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from McCartny is defended easily by Turchin.

Turchin tries to advance to mount but McCartny instead regains half guard.
McCartny is looking to improve his position.

McCartny moves into full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Turchin won't allow McCartny to get back to his feet.

McCartny throws his legs up looking for a submission but Turchin uses it to pass to side control.

Turchin has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Turchin closes the distance and clinches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Turchin changes levels and goes for a takedown here. McCartny fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Turchin tries to advance position but instead McCartny slips a leg back in to half guard.
McCartny trying to control but Turchin postures up.
Turchin wants to get back to his feet.
Turchin looks to land a strike but McCartny avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ivan Turchin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Turchin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
