PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Holden James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker comes to the cage accompanied by Unholy Confessions by Avenged Sevenfold. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Holden James!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good standup being displayed there by James as he connects with a hook.
James tries to clinch but Walker moves away
and Walker counters with a nice leg kick.
Holden James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
James staying out of range there.
Walker cracks James with a right hand to the side of the head.
Walker wants to clinch but James slips to the side
and James counters with a nice uppercut.
Walker throws a lazy right hand but James sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Walker feints and as James raises his hands in defense, Walker changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
James looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Walker landing some decent shots from guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Walker wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.
Walker slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James looking to control.

Walker advances to half guard.
Walker is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Walker wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position.
James keeping moving, preventing Walker from controlling successfully.
Walker trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Walker is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Walker with a flurry of punches that miss.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Walker accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Walker is looking to advance position but James has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
James thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Walker is looking to improve his position but James isn't that keen on the idea.
Walker bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Walker trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
This has been an exciting period of action!
James keeping full guard, as Walker tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James is trying to keep Walker in close.

James wants to get back to his feet but Walker is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Walker tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.

Walker has gone for a leg lock! James slips out almost immediately though and dives into Walker's guard.

James got a little sloppy there for a moment and Walker has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, James has managed to get both his arms back between Walker's legs - danger averted.
Walker looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but James puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Walker is looking to control James's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Walker avoid being mounted?
James prevents Walker from improving his position.

James trying to control the pace.
James not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
James is looking to take a break and control but Walker is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Walker trying to hold on to James's head to control him but James postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Horrible takedown by Walker or perhaps it was just good defense by James which made him look bad.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James feints and then cracks Walker's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Walker down.
Walker shoots in looking for a takedown but James manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Walker's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Walker dominated that round.
That's time! Walker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Walker shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
James fails to land with a series of punches.
James avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
James has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
James tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Walker paws at him with a jab and circles away.
James swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Walker counters with a lovely straight right hand!
James throws a head kick that Walker semi-blocks.

James gets a clinch.

Walker has clasped his hands together around James's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Walker tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Walker in side control, throwing shots but James defends.

Walker tries to move to mount but James blocks the move with his legs.
Walker wants to control but James is keeping him busy.

Walker wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by James, who protects the arm well.
James is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
James is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Walker jumps into side control!
James is looking to regain half guard here but Walker keeps moving and retains side control.
Walker controlling the position.

Walker landing a few strikes.
James is not content to let Walker control the position.
James stops Walker from passing to mount.
Sloppy strikes there by Walker.

Walker is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. James knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Walker goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, James rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Walker's guard! Nice work there by James!

Walker is looking for a triangle but James pushes his legs off easily.

Walker looking for submissions from the bottom but instead James passes into half guard.
Walker trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but James manages to pass to mount!
Paul Walker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
James looking to control but Walker is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Walker wants to control but James is having none of it.

James throwing strikes here but Walker is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
James wants to control the pace but Walker is squirming around nicely.
Walker is trying desperately to improve position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

James keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


James lands a head kick. Walker smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Walker fails with an attempt to clinch.
James throws an off balance right hand

and Walker counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Walker works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Walker lands with a punch from half guard.
James is staying active underneath Walker, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Walker not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Walker is looking to advance position but James won't allow it.
Walker is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and James reverses the position - he's now on top in Walker's guard.
James must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

James decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Walker, up you get!

Walker has a takedown stuffed.
James connects with a jab.
James throws a body kick that misses.
Walker misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
James wants to clinch up but Walker keeps it at a distance.
Walker blocks the body kick.
James connects with a high kick.
James scores with a body shot.
James tries to close the distance and clinch but Walker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Walker takes one on the button.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
James swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Holden James has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

James's corner calls for a 1-2. James obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
James is looking to clinch.
James circles away from the clinch attempt.
James misses with a kick to the body.
James throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Walker's head.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Walker is defended easily by James.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Walker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
James throws a low kick but it's checked well by Walker.
Horrible takedown by Walker or perhaps it was just good defense by James which made him look bad.
Walker works over James's head and body with a nice combination.

Walker fails with the takedown.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Nice defenses there by Walker.
Walker fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but James avoids it really well and circles away.
James goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Paul Walker is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Paul Walker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
James lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
James lands with an uppercut that bounces Walker off the cage and back into range.
A decent looking cross lands there for Walker.
The crowd cheers as James lands an impressive looking overhand right. Walker doesn't seem phased though.
James needs to keep his hands up - Walker had a free shot at his head there.

James moves in looking to clinch but Walker pushes him off.
Walker listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Walker slips under a jab.
A combination from James does no damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
James throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Walker looks to land a combination. James sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
James misses with a left hand
and Walker counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Walker gets the takedown into side control.
James is looking for a sweep.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Walker goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, James rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Walker's guard! Nice work there by James!
Walker is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Holden James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Walker has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
