PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between King Leonidas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Magatsu Taito (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Leonidas might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Spartan Warriors. King Leonidas has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, King Leonidas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Magatsu Taito!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Alyssa Summers and Chad Campbell.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taito ducks under a wild hook from Leonidas.
Leonidas rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Taito counters with a head kick. That will keep Leonidas thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Leonidas leaves Taito with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Leonidas cracks Taito with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Leonidas stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Leonidas wants it to stay on the feet.
King Leonidas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Magatsu Taito.
Taito misses with a body shot
and Leonidas counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Taito closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Leonidas pushes Taito away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Taito gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Leonidas managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Taito.
Taito tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Leonidas is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Taito has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Taito advances to mount.
Leonidas wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Taito thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Leonidas tries to buck Taito off but he can't manage it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Taito moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Leonidas has worked his arm free - good work by Leonidas!
Taito tries to advance to mount but Leonidas instead regains half guard.
Taito tries to pass to full mount but Leonidas defends it.
Leonidas really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Leonidas is trying to stand up here but Taito is controlling him well.

Taito trying to advance position but Leonidas counters by regaining guard.
Leonidas will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Taito pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Leonidas is keeping the position for now.
Taito throws and elbow that misses. Leonidas uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Taito's guard. Nice move by Leonidas!

Leonidas wanted to stand there but Taito had control of the position.

Taito is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Taito looking to hit a scissor sweep but Leonidas is one step ahead there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Taito has his foot on Leonidas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Leonidas works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Taito throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Leonidas's waist but Leonidas gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Taito off to one side.

Taito shoots in looking for a takedown but Leonidas manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Taito's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Taito. Leonidas does a little dance to reset his feet.
Leonidas throws a hook to the side of Taito's head but Taito sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Taito connects with a right hand. Leonidas shakes it off.
Taito tries a low kick but Leonidas avoids it.
Taito closes the distance and clinches up with Leonidas, looking for a takedown. Taito pushes Leonidas against the cage but Leonidas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
King Leonidas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Magatsu Taito.
Taito feints and then cracks Leonidas's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Leonidas down.

and Leonidas counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Taito wants to land a leg kick but Leonidas is out of range.

and Taito makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Taito misses with a wild body shot.
Leonidas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Taito moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Taito shoots in for a double leg but Leonidas sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
King Leonidas is winning the standup battle so far.
Leonidas fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Taito manages to avoid it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Leonidas feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Taitos jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Magatsu Taito seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A punch lands to the side of Taito 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Leonidas is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Taito throws a good cross that connects.
Taito bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
King Leonidas is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Leonidas moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Taito is trying hard to land a takedown here. Leonidas sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Taito pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Taito shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Leonidas as he jumps to the side.

Taito fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Leonidas avoids it really well and circles away.
