PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Greg Mungo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dyne Yevon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yevon has chosen Ayreon - Age of Shadows as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Greg Mungo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dyne Yevon!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and George Francis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yevon swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Mungo misses with the combination.
Mungo throws a hook but Yevon avoids it easily.

Yevon drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Yevon is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Mungo's shoulder. That is not cool.
Yevon's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
It looks like Yevon might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Dyne Yevon has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Mungo throws a right and a left that Yevon avoids nicely.
Mungo waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Yevon.
Yevon sizes up Mungo with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Mungo bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Yevon's head.

Yevon shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Yevon tries to free his leg and advance position but Mungo is retaining full guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Dyne Yevon wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mungo connects with a right hand. Yevon shakes it off.
A decent looking cross lands there for Mungo.
Good exchange - Mungo coming out on top.
Mungo loads up on a big right hand but Yevon slips the punch.
A combination from Mungo does no damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mungo throws an overhand right that lands on Yevon's shoulder, as Yevon tries to avoid the shot.
Yevon is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Mungo.
Mungo throws a jab but it's blocked by Yevon.
Yevon misses with a looping left.
Yevon throws a hook to the side of Mungo's head but Mungo sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Mungo scores with a nice right hand.
Mungo throws a looping overhand right but Yevon ducks down to avoid it.
Yevon moves away from the strike by Mungo.
Mungo missing with a left hand there. Yevon was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Yevon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
A combination from Mungo does no damage.
Yevon fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters circling - Mungo throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Yevon falls off balance throwing a combination
and Mungo counters with a two punch combo.

Yevon is rocked!
Mungo will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Yevon is still on wobbly legs! Can Mungo finish him?
Mungo lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Yevon circles away quickly and effectively.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Yevon scores with a jab to the head.
Yevon seems to have recovered his senses.
Yevon staying out of range there.
Mungo lands a right hook to the body.
A jab from Yevon misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mungo swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Yevon.
Mungo moves into range and connects with a jab.
Yevon misses with a hook.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Greg Mungo will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Yevon rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mungo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mungo lands with a nice body punch.
Mungo scores with a nice right hand.
Yevon slips a straight right by Mungo.
Yevon scores with a punch to the head.
Mungo throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mungo waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Yevon.
Mungo throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Yevon's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Mungo dives in looking to finish as Yevon flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Mungo's strikes! Mungo is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Yevon's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Yevon was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
