Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Detroit Lion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matthew Williams has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Detroit Lion!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matthew Williams!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Williams darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Lion is trying to maintain the position but Williams is very close to passing his half guard.
Williams content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Lion is trying to stand back up but Williams is controlling him

That's one minute gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lion wants to clinch up but Williams keeps it at a distance.
Lion tries to clinch but Williams is having none of it.
Williams keeps the fight on the outside.
Lion tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Williams darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Lion on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Lion looks like he's trying to stand up.
Williams seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lion does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Lion is looking for a sweep. Williams is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Williams thows a huge punch but Lion dodges it nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Detroit Lion.
Lion tries to close the distance and clinch up but Williams swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Williams dives in and scores a takedown into Lion's guard.
Williams trying to control but Lion is working from the bottom.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Williams accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Lion is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Williams is controlling him.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Lion looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Williams takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew Williams dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Williams shoots in for a takedown but Lion shows good takedown defense.

Lion rushes Williams and presses him up against the cage.
Williams wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Lion has him pressed against the cage.
Williams drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lion pulls his leg out and moves away.
Lion tries to clinch

and Williams counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Williams.
Williams postures up in Lion's guard and throws a big left but Lion blocks it.
Lion working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Williams.
Lion not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Detroit Lion just wasn't active enough.

Lion tries to sprawl but Williams drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Lion keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Williams is keen to just control but Lion is a slippery customer.
Williams is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Lion reverses the position - he's now on top in Williams's guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lion stays in close to Williams's body and controls the position.

Lion trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom.
Williams seems keen to control Lion's posture.
Matthew Williams has got the better of the ground game so far.
Williams tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Lion tries to clinch but Williams is having none of it.

and Williams counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Lion!

Williams pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lion sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Williams not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Williams is keen to just control but Lion is a slippery customer.
Williams looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Williams connects with a nice short shot to Lion's temple.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Williams wants to control but Lion is keeping him busy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Detroit Lion.
Lion tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Williams counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matthew Williams showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Lion leaves Williams with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Lion shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Williams manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Lion wants to control from the top but Williams keeps moving.
Williams looking for a sweep. Not yet Williams, not yet.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Williams can do anything to dispel that myth.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Williams bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Lion struggling a bit here.
Williams in side control lands a decent elbow.
Williams trying to control the position but Lion is working away.

Williams misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Williams cracks Lion with a big right hand but Lion just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Williams cracks Lion with an elbow. That is naaassty.


Lion is rocked!
Williams trying to control the action but Lion is working from the bottom.
Oh Lion is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Williams working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Lion seems to have got his legs back now.
Williams lands a big left to the face of Lion, bouncing his head like a basketball. Another shot from Williams and another - Lion is out! Williams stands up and salutes his fans, who are going crazy in the stands.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Matthew Williams!
