PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jack Ovaltrades (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitaly Smirnoff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jack Ovaltrades!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Vitaly Smirnoff!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Patrick Alders and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smirnoff scores with a head kick.
Smirnoff lands a two punch combo.
Sloppy strikes from Smirnoff. Those never looked like landing.

Ovaltrades shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ovaltrades showed some decent athleticism there.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Ovaltrades frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Smirnoff is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Ovaltrades controlling his opponent.

Ovaltrades goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Smirnoff is on top in guard.

Smirnoff tries to lock up and control but Ovaltrades gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Ovaltrades fails to move to back control.
Smirnoff is in all sorts of trouble here.
Ovaltrades lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Smirnoff hang on?

Ovaltrades is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Smirnoff to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Smirnoff shrugs it off.
Ovaltrades with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ovaltrades tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Ovaltrades throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Smirnoff because Ovaltrades loaded up on that one.
Ovaltrades has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Smirnoff is controlling an arm, preventing Ovaltrades from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Smirnoff is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Ovaltrades jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Smirnoff manages to avoid the submission attempt.

The referee asks Ovaltrades politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Ovaltrades prefers to stall for the moment though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ovaltrades wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Smirnoff, who protects the arm well.
Smirnoff is not content to let Ovaltrades control the position.

Ovaltrades is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Smirnoff has escaped the position, nice work there.

Ovaltrades tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ovaltrades has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ovaltrades is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Smirnoff knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Smirnoff is looking to reverse the position.
Smirnoff is trying to get back to his feet.

Ovaltrades tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Smirnoff is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Ovaltrades is looking to advance position but Smirnoff won't allow it.
Smirnoff is looking to control Ovaltrades's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Smirnoff avoid being mounted?

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ovaltrades wants to control but Smirnoff is keeping him busy.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Smirnoff throws a series of punches but Ovaltrades avoids them all with ease.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Smirnoff throws a leg kick but Ovaltrades sees it coming and moves out of range.
Smirnoff throws a right and a left that both miss.
Smirnoff lands a body shot.
Ovaltrades on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Smirnoff misses with an uppercut. Ovaltrades saw that one coming.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Ovaltrades here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Smirnoff tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Good leg kick by Smirnoff there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Ovaltrades avoids the head kick by Smirnoff.
Smirnoff darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Smirnoff lands the left hand.
Ovaltrades fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ovaltrades takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Smirnoff misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Smirnoff lands with a kick to the ribs.

Smirnoff throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Ovaltrades throws a shot from downtown. Smirnoff moves away and avoids it.
Jack Ovaltrades is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ovaltrades blocks a low kick nicely.
Ovaltrades gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Smirnoff cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
A combination from Smirnoff does no damage.
Smirnoff keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
