PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Yoon Chung Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Cage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoon Chung Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Johnny Cage!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yuuki Gou and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim wants to slow Cage down by chopping away at his legs.
Cage throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Cage slips a jab and a cross from Kim.
Kim pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kim throws a right and a left that Cage avoids nicely.
Cage keeps the fight on the outside.
Cage shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kim pinned against the cage. Kim gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kim misses with an attempted mid kick.

Kim closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cage to the mat! Cage manages to get full guard.
Kim postures up.
Cage wants to sweep but no luck.
Kim is looking to advance position but Cage has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kim is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Cage tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
BOOM! Cage connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Kim knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cage on the ground.
Kim wants to control but Cage is having none of it.
Kim is desperately trying to improve his position but Cage has a good base and remains in mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kim tries to hold on but Cage pushes him away.
Kim taking shots to the head.
Kim is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kim is squirming around, avoiding Cage's attempts to control the action.

Cage gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Kim throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Cage doesn't manage to clinch there - Kim circles away.
Kim keeps the fight on the outside.
Cage scores with a one two! Kim had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Cage tries to close the distance and clinch but Kim swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cage throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Kim stuffs the takedown attempt from Cage. Cage gets slowly back to his feet.
Cage shoots in for a double leg but Kim sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Yoon Chung Kim has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Cage.
Cage looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cage has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Cage dodges the punch combination from Kim.
Kim misses with a head kick.
Kim keeps the fight on the outside.
Cage is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Cage slips a jab and a cross from Kim.
Kim blocks a head kick by Cage.
A left and a right from Kim both land. Nice combination.
Cage shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Kim lands a leg kick that knocks Cage off balance momentarily.
Kim throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A big right from Kim misses.
A leg kick checked by Kim.
Johnny Cage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cage shoots in but no luck this time.
Cage tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kim swivels and escapes.
Cage fails with the takedown
and Kim counters with a three punch combo that has Cage backing up. Cage nods at Kim to acknowledge the strikes.

Cage gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kim to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kim controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yoon Chung Kim dominated that round.
That's time! Kim's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Kim gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kim gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Kim avoiding damage.
Cage blocks a body shot from Kim.

Kim pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kim takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Kim scores with a nice right hand.
Cage throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kim's waist but Kim gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cage off to one side.

Kim drives through with a takedown into Cage's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Kim has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kim showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cage is trying to control the position but Kim postures up.

Cage escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kim gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kim's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Yoon Chung Kim.
Cage changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kim tries to avoid it but Cage manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kim to the ground. Kim escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cage is breathing heavily.
Cage slips a jab and a cross from Kim.

Kim rushes Cage and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Kim turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Kim is trying to ground and pound but Cage uses the momentary lack of control by Kim to regain half guard.
Kim is controlling the pace.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Cage is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kim pulls his head out easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kim is thwarting Cage's attempts to control the position.
Kim tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Kim content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Yoon Chung Kim wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Cage tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kim sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cage somewhat.
Yoon Chung Kim has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Cage.
Kim misses with the combination.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A head kick misses from Kim.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yoon Chung Kim dominated that second round.
That's time! Kim's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Kim tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Kim tries to sprawl but Cage drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Cage seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kim does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kim is trying is best to control the position here.
Kim is trying to control but can't.
Kim is looking for a sweep. Cage is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Cage is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kim has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kim is trying to stand back up but Cage is controlling him
Kim trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kim is in all sorts of trouble here.

Kim in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Cage is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kim to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kim shrugs it off.
Cage tries to control but Kim wriggling away.
Kim is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Kim is squirming around, avoiding Cage's attempts to control the action.
Kim can't escape the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cage can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kim is looking to escape.
Cage won't let Kim get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Cage putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

Cage looking for a guillotine from mount but Kim is having none of it.
Cage throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Kim is squirming around, avoiding Cage's attempts to control the action.

Kim blocking the ground and pound.
Kim tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kim is bucking up trying to escape but Cage cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Kim tries to hold on but Cage pushes him away.
Kim can't escape the position.
Cage with a couple of short strikes.
Kim wants to try and get back to his feet.
Kim trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Cage is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kim stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kim wants it to stay on the feet.
Kim pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Cage shoots in looking for a takedown. Kim tries to sprawl out of it but Cage keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kim manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kim misses with a double jab.
Kim throws a right hand that Cage ducks under and follows up with a left that Cage also avoids with ease.
Kim keeps the fight on the outside.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kim takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Cage takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

And that's the end of the fight!
Johnny Cage comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kim has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
