The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Takahashi shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Takahashi is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mendes is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mendes has escaped and now he's on top!
Mendes wants to stand but Takahashi is controlling his posture from full guard.

Mendes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Takahashi is proving hard to escape from.

Takahashi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mendes wants to get up but he can't break Takahashi's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Takahashi is looking for a triangle here but Mendes uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Takahashi manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Takahashi is breathing heavily.

Takahashi tries to roll over but Mendes keeps him under control.
Mendes is trying to control the action in half guard but Takahashi is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mendes prevents Takahashi from improving his position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Takahashi wants to control the action here but instead Mendes manages to pass to full mount!

Takahashi bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Takahashi tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Takahashi is working to tighten is grip on Mendes's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Mendes has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Takahashi is really squeezing tight and eventually Mendes passes out! Takahashi breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
