The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bonds changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lilian looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Lilian is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Bonds has just dragged him back down to the mat.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lilian can do anything to dispel that myth.

Bonds drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lilian looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lilian looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lilian!

Lilian escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bonds gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Lilian has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bonds can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bonds throws an elbow but Lilian slips to the side and avoids it well.

Lilian is working to avoid the ground and pound but Bonds connects with a decent elbow.
Bonds wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lilian keeps working.
Lilian takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Lilian is trying to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bonds misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Andrew Lilian hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
