PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dmonray Malapitan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Remming (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Malapitan comes to the cage accompanied by My Time is Now. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dmonray Malapitan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Derrick Remming!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Franklyn Lucas and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malapitan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Remming avoids it really well and circles away.
Remming feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Malapitan's calf.
Malapitan fails with the takedown
and Remming counters with a nice body kick.
Remming avoids the body shot from Malapitan.
Malapitan checks a leg kick.
Malapitan tries to clinch
and Remming makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Malapitan really felt that one!

Malapitan fails with the takedown
and Remming counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dmonray Malapitan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Malapitan fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Remming to the ground. Malapitan is now in Remming's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Remming looking for a sweep. Not yet Remming, not yet.
Malapitan throws and elbow that misses. Remming uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Malapitan's guard. Nice move by Remming!

Remming controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Malapitan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Remming is working Malapitan over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Malapitan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Remming thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Malapitan's head.

Remming wants to take a breather but Malapitan is having none of it.
Remming is nestled in close to Malapitan, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Malapitan has hold of Remming's hands but Remming slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Remming is just content to waste time from the top position. Malapitan takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Remming postures up in Malapitan's guard and throws a big left but Malapitan blocks it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Malapitan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Remming doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Remming manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Remming keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Malapitan's head.
Remming throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Malapitan works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Remming slips nicely into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Remming connects with a nice short shot to Malapitan's temple.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Malapitan is looking to control Remming's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Malapitan avoid being mounted?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Malapitan has his takedown stuffed

and Remming counters with a single leg into guard. Malapitan didn't expect that.
Remming controlling from the top position.
Remming throwing strikes from guard but Malapitan blocks nicely.
Remming trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Remming trying to control but Malapitan is working from the bottom.
Derrick Remming has got the better of the ground game so far.
Remming is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Remming throws and elbow that misses. Malapitan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Remming's guard. Nice move by Malapitan!
Malapitan wants to control from the top but Remming keeps moving.
Malapitan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Malapitan looking to sit in guard and control but Remming gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Remming scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Remming landing with the ground and pound.
Remming working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Malapitan wants to sweep here but Remming controlling him for the moment.
Remming postures up in Malapitan's guard and throws a big left but Malapitan blocks it.
Remming working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Remming is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Remming trying to control the position from guard on top but Malapitan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Remming is working Malapitan over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Remming is stalling in the full guard.
Remming postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Malapitan wants to get back to his feet but Remming passes into half guard.
Remming perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Malapitan has hold of Remming's hands but Remming slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Remming drops an elbow to the side of Malapitan's head.
Remming is trying to control the action in half guard but Malapitan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Remming uses his free foot to push down on Malapitan's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Malapitan.

Malapitan is rocked!


It looks like Dmonray Malapitan has been cut.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Remming landing punches.
Oh Malapitan is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Derrick Remming showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Remming looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Malapitan!
Malapitan takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Remming has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Remming takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Remming lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Remming postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Malapitan in real trouble here! The ref calls for Malapitan to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Derrick Remming!
