PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nakki Makkara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cris Dupont (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makkara pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Dupont drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Dupont takes a little break here. Makkara wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Makkara tries to escape but Dupont is in control.

Dupont looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Makkara prevents Dupont from improving position.
Dupont is looking to take a break and control but Makkara is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Makkara wants to control but Dupont postures up.

Dupont looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Makkara is avoiding damage well.
Makkara wants to get back to his feet but Dupont is dominant here and he's now got Makkara's back!
Makkara is trying to get back to his feet but Dupont has full control of the position and if anything, Makkara has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Dupont is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Makkara is defending well though. Dupont let's go of the attempt for now.

Dupont has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Dupont has hold of Makkara's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Makkara manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dupont prevents Makkara from getting the reversal.

Makkara is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Makkara gets back to half guard.
Makkara works his way to full guard. Good work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Cris Dupont hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Makkara tries to clinch there but Dupont circles away.
Makkara throws out a powerful jab.
Dupont looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Dupont bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Dupont might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Makkara kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Dupont has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Makkara finds it's way round the side to connect with Dupont's head.

Dupont is trying to drag Makkara to the mat but Makkara just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Cris Dupont wasn't active enough on the ground.

Makkara throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Makkara feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Duponts jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Makkara is pressed up against the cage. Dupont has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Makkara down to the mat. Makkara avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
No luck for Dupont with that takedown attempt.
Dupont takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Makkara digs a right hand into Dupont's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Dupont's gas tank.
