PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gavin Douglas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodney Parker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Douglas's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Drowning Pool - Step up. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Gavin Douglas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Rodney Parker!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, William Gold and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Douglas drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Parker is not content to let Douglas control the position.
Parker tries to bench press Douglas off him but Douglas keeps the position.
Parker wants to get back to his feet.
Douglas throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Parker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Douglas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Parker wants to get back to his feet but Douglas drags him back down.
Douglas wants to control but Parker is keeping him busy.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Parker can do anything to dispel that myth.
Douglas tries to advance to mount but Parker denies him.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Douglas decides to stand back up. Douglas steps back and let's Parker get back to his feet.

Douglas feints and as Parker raises his hands in defense, Douglas changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Parker utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Douglas drops back looking for a leg! Parker is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Parker manages to kick Douglas off! Douglas jumps back into Parker's guard.
Douglas trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Douglas won't allow Parker to get back to his feet.
Douglas stopping the sweep attempt from Parker.
Parker wants to stand but Douglas is controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Douglas stands up and waves to Parker to follow him.
Douglas takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Douglas closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Parker's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Parker is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Douglas is controlling him.
Douglas might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

We're going to have a standup here because Gavin Douglas wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Douglas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Douglas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Parker is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Douglas throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Douglas cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Douglas is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Parker is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Parker flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Douglas anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Parker and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Douglas slips an arm under Parker chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Douglas has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Douglas is squeezing on Parker like an anaconda would it's prey. Parker fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Gavin Douglas!
