The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gordeau avoids the head kick by Butts.
A head kick misses from Butts.
Butts throws a lazy uppercut
letting Gordeau counter with a right hand.

Gordeau takes the fight into the clinch.
A short right from Gordeau on the inside.
Gordeau makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Gordeau pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Gordeau clinches up against the cage.
Gordeau scores with a shot to the side of Butts's head.
Gordeau throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Butts tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gordeau prevents Butts from breaking the clinch.
Gordeau is working Butts over against the cage.
Butts is breathing heavily.

Gordeau breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gordeau scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Butts is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gordeau thuds a left hand into Butts's body.
Butts drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Gerard Gordeau is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gordeau digs a good hook to Butts's body.

Gordeau lands a left and a right that send Butts crashing to the mat, dazed. Gordeau thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Butts is rocked!

Gordeau throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Oh Butts is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gordeau throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Butts stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Butts seems to have got his legs back now.
Gordeau jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Gordeau drops Butts with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Butts! Gordeau dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
