PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lord Humungus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Humungus comes to the ring accompanied by My Speech. Thomas Griffin is staring across the ring at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lord Humungus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Thomas Griffin!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, David Schapiro and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Humungus attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

Griffin clinches up against the ropes.
Griffin has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Humungus avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
A knee to the head by Humungus.
Humungus tries to land a knee to the head but Griffin blocks with his arms.

Griffin turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Griffin manages to end up in side control.
Humungus is trying to control Griffin's posture but Griffin avoids it.
Humungus tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Humungus sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Griffin is looking to take a break and control but Humungus is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Humungus regains full guard. Nicely done.
Humungus wants to sweep here but Griffin controlling him for the moment.
Griffin wants to control from the top but Humungus keeps moving.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Humungus has his foot on Griffin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Griffin works his way back into a safe position though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Griffin wants to control from the top but Humungus keeps moving.

Humungus has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Griffin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Humungus looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Griffin wants to pass the guard but Humungus is keeping the position.

Humungus throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Humungus is breathing heavily.
Griffin wanted to stand there but Humungus had control of the position.
Humungus looking to hit a scissor sweep but Griffin is one step ahead there.
Humungus wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Griffin is now in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Griffin wants to free his trapped foot but Humungus is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Griffin is working for a kimura but Humungus is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Humungus wants to improve his position but Griffin is controlling well.
Griffin trying to control the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Griffin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Griffin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Humungus looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Humungus is trying to get back to half guard.
Griffin is looking to take a break and control but Humungus is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Humungus manages to work his way to half guard, despite Griffin's best efforts.
Humungus gets back to full guard.
Griffin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Humungus. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Griffin working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Humungus's head.

Humungus working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Griffin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Griffin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Griffin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Humungus preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Griffin trying to control but Humungus is working from the bottom.

Griffin with a flurry of punches that miss.

Griffin is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Humungus has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Griffin is looking to defend but Humungus has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Griffin! Humungus pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Griffin taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Lord Humungus!
